The Three Hundred and Five 305 School buildings constructed during Owelle Rochas Okorocha regime across Imo State between 2011-2019 are said to have now been taken over by wild animals and hoodlum even as teachers and school children have refused to make use of since they were built many years ago.
Against this backdrop, the Imo State Commissioner for Education, Prof B.T.O Ikeagwuoha has submitted that the 305 school building must under integrity test for the experts to ascertain the true position of the buildings despite that the teachers and school children are not making use of them.
The Commissioner said this in a live programme at Ozisa 96.1 FM Owerri Wednesday morning.
The Commissioner maintained that the Government of Governor Hope Uzodinma must continue to be a guided, adding that Imo school children must be protected.
Concerned Imolites who spoke on this issue raised eyesbrow and called for the immediate demolition of the 305 school buildings located at the 305 major political wards in Imo State. Aggrieved Imolites explained that the school buildings have structural defections and for now the structures have become death trap and also a disaster waiting to happen.
We gathered that those who handled the school building contracts did not live to the expectation of the Engineering ethics.
The 305 buildings were among the contracts of Owelle Rochas Okorocha that came up at the Probe Panel recently. The Judicial Panel of Inquiry on failed contracts handled by Rescue Mission Government of Owelle Rochas Okorocha former governor of Imo State between 2011-2019 visited some of the buildings and were shocked.
The chairman and his members have submitted their report and the whole issue will soon come out in the White Paper of Imo State as we were told. The demand for the demolition of the 305 school building has continued to ring bell at Governor’s office.
The buildings apart from having structural defections are said not have the required facilities.
Sources from Imo Government House revealed that Governor Hope Uzodinma has considered it necessary to pull down the 305 school buildings without delay.
It was the same demand of people that made him to pull down Somtochukwu Hospital at Ekeukwu Owerri which was built by Owelle Rochas Okorocha led administration.
