As the Covid-19 pandemic continues to\naffect social and religious activities, the Owerri Catholic Archdiocese has\nreleased programs for Burials and Marriage ceremonies for the Catholics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a statement issued by the\nArchbishop of Owerri, Most Rev Anthony J.V Obinna, the below stated directives\nwill be in force until the coronavirus pandemic scare disappears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The release dated May 16th<\/sup>,\n2020 states \u201cGiven the need to be prudent, cautious and respectful of existing\nhealth guidelines in our church activities, I hereby give the following\ndirectives for funerals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe\ndeceased will be taken from the mortuary straight to the church for the\nreception and Holy Mass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThere will be no lying in state in the family\nhouse before Holy Mass, Family members may go to the mortuary to view the\nremains before the movement to the church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe blowing or blaring of sirens is\nprohibited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNo external dance show should accompany\nthe ambulance<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOne priest is complete for the Funeral Mass,\nHowever, not more than 10 priests may vest to concelebrate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThere will be no more than persons in\nthe church in order to maintain social distancing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe Funeral Requiem Mass will not last\nmore than 70 minutes with no more than 10 minutes for the homily<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cAll should wear face masks and wash\ntheir hands<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThere will be no funeral oration. A\nmember of the family will be allowed to express the family thanks in no more\nthan 3 minutes<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThere will be no condolence Collection<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cOne priest is complete for the interment.\nHowever, no more than 5 priests may be there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cFamily members, relatives and a few\nmembers of the choir will be at the grave side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThere will be no entertainment of any\nform<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe ban on the shooting of guns is\nstill in force<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cA sense of sobriety and Christian\nmodesty should characterize the funeral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The second part for Marriage, states\n\u201cOne priest is complete to assist at marriage. However, not more than 8 priests\nmay vest in concelebrate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe couple and the sponsors are\ncanonically complete for the marriage consent and witnessing.
