{"id":38009,"date":"2022-10-20T09:40:34","date_gmt":"2022-10-20T09:40:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.imotrumpeta.com\/?p=38009"},"modified":"2022-10-20T09:40:34","modified_gmt":"2022-10-20T09:40:34","slug":"nigerian-club-owners-propose-abridged-2022-23-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.imotrumpeta.com\/?p=38009","title":{"rendered":"Nigerian Club Owners Propose Abridged 2022\/23 Season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"yiv4011168631MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"yiv4011168631MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"yiv4011168631MsoNormal\">Clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League are pushing for an abridged league for the 2022\/23 season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4011168631MsoNormal\">The clubs cited time constraints and the need to have a uniform calendar with the European leagues as reasons for their proposal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4011168631MsoNormal\">It was learnt that the proposal for the abridged league will be forwarded to the Interim Management Committee (IMC) once the body is inaugurated by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4011168631MsoNormal\">The IMC is the new body saddled with the responsibility of running the NPFL after the League Management Committee (LMC) was declared illegal by Nigeria\u2019s sports ministry.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4011168631MsoNormal\">The league, according to the proposal by the club owners, will be divided into two groups of 10 teams each.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4011168631MsoNormal\">The top two teams in each group will then compete in a Super Four tournament to decide the league champions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yiv4011168631MsoNormal\">Rivers United won the NPFL title last season, fighting off a stiff challenge from Plateau United.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have looked at various options and the best option available to us now is to play abridge league to end the season on time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlaying full season with the time lost will not help our players who may be going for trials in Europe. Our league need proper restructuring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCan you imagine countries like Ethiopia,\u00a0Zambia , Kenya , South Africa have their league running without interruption and shown live on DSTV and other television stations.<\/p>\n<p>Our league is not experiencing the best of time in terms of sponsorship,\u00a0huge debts for match officials and staff of scrapped LMC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf we
