The concerned people of Assa North cluster on Thursday 14 December 2023 held a peaceful demonstration in Ohaji area of Imo State to protest against neglect of social responsibility by a leading Gas giant, Anoh Gas Processing Company (AGPC), citing several areas the community is deficient, which is not limited to the Assa-ohoba-obosima road.<\/p>\n
According to the spokesperson of Assa North cluster, Comrade Duke-Bright C.C. Enyia, the cluster which is made up of many host communities including Assa, Obile, Ochia, Awarra, Ohoba and Obosima communities, ab initio wrote to intimate the Nigerian Police and other security agencies of the arrangement to embark on a peaceful demonstration against AGPC for their marginalization and calculated neglect over the host communities.<\/p>\n
Although, newsmen tried to reach the said Anoh Gas Processing Company (AGPC) to speak on the issue, but all efforts proved abortive as at press time.<\/p>\n
However, a press release signed by relevant Government Security agencies and the spokesperson, reads; \u201cOur terms of demonstration is peaceful\u00a0and we are law abiding citizens of this country poised to using this avenue to\u00a0express our inalienable\u00a0right to peaceful demonstration\u00a0aimed at drawing the attention of the\u00a0Government, the management of ANOH GAS PROCESSING COMPANY (AGPC)\u00a0and the\u00a0entire world to the plight of our people.<\/p>\n
It\u00a0is pertinent to note that\u00a0for over Four\u00a0Years of ANOH GAS PROCESSING COMPANY operation in our area, there has\u00a0not been any significant development or positive impact by the company\u00a0on the Host\u00a0Communities. We lack electricity, access roads, good hospitals,\u00a0et.al<\/a>\u00a0and instead of\u00a0developing our Communities; the ANOH GAS PROCESSING COMPANY has only\u00a0succeeded\u00a0<\/span>in Balkanizing our Communities thereby depriving us of numerous benefits,\u00a0opportunities,\u00a0undertakings and engagements as specified\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0local\u00a0content\u00a0and PIA act\u00a0for Host\u00a0Communities\u201d.<\/p>\n The press release also reads;<\/p>\n \u201cSecondly, the ANOH GAS PROCESSING\u00a0COMPANY\u00a0<\/span>had conceded without due diligence and right rule of\u00a0engagement for\u00a0\u00a0capacity to awarding the ASSA-OHOBA– OBOSIMA Road to incompetent\u00a0contractors who\u00a0<\/span>have demonstrated their unwillingness to construct that Road for\u00a0over\u00a0Three\u00a0years\u00a0it has been awarded thereby culminating into multiple accidents thus leading to deaths several injuries of members of the Host Communities, and has currently become an impasse for our people who are predominantly farmers making it unable to access their farms for daily bread hence, our\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>peaceful demonstration.
