This press conference is convened to:<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Highlight the contributions of oil-producing communities to the economy of Imo State.<\/p>\n
Catalogue key oil and gas companies operating within these communities.<\/p>\n
Present our lived realities of neglect, deprivation, and marginalization.<\/p>\n
Outline our strategic demands for justice and development.<\/p>\n
State our position on the Imo Charter of Equity.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Imo as an Oil-Producing State<\/p>\n
Imo State\u2019s status as an oil and gas-producing state is firmly anchored in two Local Government Areas: Ohaji\/Egbema and Oguta.<\/p>\n
These regions:<\/p>\n
Qualify Imo State for inclusion in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).<\/p>\n
Significantly enhance the state\u2019s federal allocation, surpassing several South-East counterparts.<\/p>\n
Serve as a critical pillar of the state\u2019s socio-economic development through oil and gas revenues.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Key Oil and Gas Operators<\/p>\n
Major operators in these communities include:<\/p>\n
Waltersmith Petroman Oil Limited<\/p>\n
Seplat Energy Plc<\/p>\n
Anoh Gas Processing Company<\/p>\n
Oando Plc<\/p>\n
Sterling Oil Exploration & Energy Production Company<\/p>\n
Antan Producing Limited<\/p>\n
Dangote Group, among others.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
These companies generate enormous value for Imo State and the Nigerian economy at large.<\/p>\n
Our Reality: Contribution Without Commensurate Benefit<\/p>\n
Despite our immense contributions, the oil-bearing communities of Ohaji\/Egbema and Oguta remain among the most underserved in Imo State.<\/p>\n
Since 1976, our collective experience has been marked by:<\/p>\n
Deplorable road infrastructure.<\/p>\n
Erratic or non-existent electricity supply.<\/p>\n
Limited access to quality healthcare and education.<\/p>\n
High youth unemployment and economic exclusion.<\/p>\n
Minimal political representation in key decision-making structures.<\/p>\n
This is not merely unfortunate\u2014it is fundamentally unjust.<\/p>\n
The Equity Question<\/p>\n
As discourse around the Imo Charter of Equity intensifies, a critical question arises:<\/p>\n
What is the place of the oil-producing communities within this framework?<\/p>\n
Equity is not symbolic\u2014it is practical, measurable, and rooted in justice.<\/p>\n
Established principles of equity remind us:<\/p>\n
Equity will not suffer a wrong without a remedy<\/p>\n
He who comes to equity must come with clean hands.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Equity follows the law<\/p>\n
Delay defeats equity<\/p>\n
The pressing question remains:<\/p>\n
Has equity truly been served in Imo State?<\/p>\n
A Case for Justice and Reparation<\/p>\n
Reparation is not charity\u2014it is justice.<\/p>\n
Across the world, societies confronted with systemic injustice have adopted deliberate corrective measures. The principle is clear:<\/p>\n
Where there has been sustained deprivation, there must be intentional restoration.<\/p>\n
Ohaji\/Egbema and Oguta have:<\/p>\n
Contributed immensely<\/p>\n
Endured patiently<\/p>\n
Engaged constructively<\/p>\n
Now, they demand fairness, inclusion, and development.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Political Imperative: 2027 Governorship<\/p>\n
At the heart of this conversation lies a compelling and just demand:<\/p>\n
The opportunity for Ohaji\/Egbema and Oguta to produce the Governor of Imo State in 2027.<\/p>\n
This is not a sectional appeal\u2014it is a test of the sincerity of the Charter of Equity.<\/p>\n
As Aristotle observed, true equity involves correcting imbalance\u2014not ignoring it.<\/p>\n
Ohaji\/Egbema and Oguta have given much.<\/p>\n
It is now time for Imo State to give back.<\/p>\n
Capacity and Readiness<\/p>\n
The region is not lacking in capable leadership.<\/p>\n
Ohaji\/Egbema and Oguta are home to accomplished individuals with the competence, experience, and vision required to govern effectively and inclusively.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Our Strategic Demands<\/p>\n
We state clearly and unequivocally:<\/p>\n
We want inclusion, not exclusion.<\/p>\n
We want development, not neglect.<\/p>\n
We want justice, not promises.<\/p>\n
It is time for one of our own to serve as Executive Governor of Imo State.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
These demands are fair, reasonable, and long overdue.<\/p>\n
As Kofi Annan rightly stated:<\/p>\n
\u201cNatural resources can be a blessing or a curse, depending on how they are managed.\u201d<\/p>\n
Our Position<\/p>\n
We affirm that:<\/p>\n
True equity must be actionable and measurable<\/p>\n
Reparation for Ohaji\/Egbema and Oguta must be deliberate and immediate<\/p>\n
Political inclusion\u2014beginning with the 2027 governorship\u2014is non-negotiable in the pursuit of justice.<\/p>\n

Conclusion<\/p>\n
For decades, Ohaji\/Egbema and Oguta have been the golden goose that lays the golden egg, yet have remained denied the benefits of their sacrifice.<\/p>\n
This must end.<\/p>\n
