Why Onyirimba? Chief Ogor Opens Up on Okigwe\u2019s 2027 Senate Battle\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

As the political contest for the 2027 Imo North Senatorial District election, popularly known as Okigwe Zone, begins to gather momentum, attention is increasingly shifting from personalities and political slogans to the strategy, organisation and ideas that will determine who eventually secures the mandate.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

At the centre of any serious political organisation is the strategic team, the people responsible for translating political vision into an executable plan.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Chief Ferdinand Ogor, Chief Strategist of the Attorney Charles Onyirimba Senatorial Campaign Council, is one of the men entrusted with that responsibility.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In this interview, he speaks on wide-ranging issues concerning Okigwe Zone and the Onyirimba project.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*Chief Ferdinand Ogor, you have been entrusted with a very strategic responsibility as Chief Strategist of the Attorney Charles Onyirimba Council. What does that position mean to you?*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It is both an honour and a profound responsibility. Strategy is not about making a noise. It is about seeing ahead, identifying opportunities, anticipating challenges and creating a coordinated pathway from aspiration to victory. My responsibility is, therefore, to help ensure that the Onyirimba campaign does not merely become another political organisation that appears during election season. We are building a disciplined, intelligent and people-oriented political structure capable of communicating the candidate’s message, listening to the people and converting legitimate public support into an electoral mandate.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*What, in your assessment, is the central political proposition of Attorney Charles Onyirimba?*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The fundamental proposition is simple: representation must produce results. Okigwe does not need a senator merely because the Senate requires someone to occupy a seat. We need someone who understands what that seat represents and how to deploy it. The question is whether that position is being maximally utilised for the benefit of the people. Attorney Charles Onyirimba believes the Senate seat should become an instrument of development, influence, advocacy and opportunity for Okigwe. That is the difference.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*What is your strategic plan for turning the Onyirimba campaign into an electoral machine?*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We are approaching the campaign systematically. The first principle is structure. You cannot win a serious election from the pages of newspapers or from social media alone. You must build from the local government level to the wards, communities and polling units.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The second principle is communicatio. People must understand not only who Charles Onyirimba is but what he intends to do with the mandate.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The third is mobilisation. Every supporter must understand that enthusiasm without organisation does not win elections.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The fourth is inclusion. Women, young people, professionals, traditional stakeholders, community leaders and ordinary voters must all see themselves as stakeholders in the project.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And finally, there is discipline. We must remain focused on our message and avoid being distracted by political provocations.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*Okigwe politics has historically been highly competitive, with established political interests, party structures and influential personalities. Are you not underestimating the strength of the opposition?*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Absolutely not. Any serious strategist respects his opponents. We know that there are established political structures and experienced political actors in Okigwe. We know the terrain is competitive. Political structures are important, but structures without public acceptance have limitations. Conversely, public goodwill without organisation can also be wasted. Our objective is to combine both. We are not approaching this election with arrogance. We are approaching it with preparation.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*What is your reading of the current political mood across Okigwe Zone?*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There is a growing appetite for something different. People are asking deeper questions now. They are asking: What has our representation delivered? What can the next senator realistically accomplish? Who has the capacity to attract opportunities? Who can speak effectively in Abuja? Who can engage government institutions? Who can bring development closer to the people? That is an important change in political consciousness. The voter is becoming more discerning. And that is why competence, character, capacity and credibility are increasingly becoming important elements of the conversation. The campaign talks extensively about competence and capacity. How do you intend to make those concepts tangible to the average voter? By moving away from abstract slogans. If you say somebody is competent, explain what competence means. It means understanding legislation. It means understanding the government. It means knowing how institutions work. It means building relationships that can benefit your constituency. It means having the intellectual capacity to participate meaningfully in national debates. It means understanding the needs of your people and knowing how to translate those needs into policy and development initiatives. The people should not merely hear that Charles Onyirimba has capacity. They should understand why we believe he has capacity.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*What place do young people occupy in your campaign strategy?*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A central place. Young people cannot be treated simply as people who carry campaign posters or attend rallies. They are a major constituency and should be participants in political decision-making. Beyond the election, the broader question is how political representation can help create opportunities for young people. Okigwe has enormous human capital. We must begin thinking beyond government employment and toward entrepreneurship, skills, technology, investment, professional networks and opportunities that connect our young people to the wider Nigerian and global economy.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*And what about women?*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Women are indispensable to the political and developmental future of Okigwe. A campaign that ignores women is strategically blind. Their participation must, therefore, go beyond attendance at political events. They must have real responsibilities and real voices within the political structure. And they already occupy a significant position in the scheme of things with one of them as director general.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*You have spoken about strategy. What, in your view, is the single biggest strategic challenge facing the Onyirimba campaign?*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The biggest challenge is ensuring that momentum becomes organisation. It is easy to create excitement. It is much harder to build a structure capable of sustaining that excitement all the way to election day. That requires a lot; We are conscious of that. The campaign must remain focused from beginning to end.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*What would you consider a successful Onyirimba representation of Okigwe if the people give him their mandate?*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Success would not be measured by the number of press releases issued or photos shared. It would be measured by impact. We would want to see stronger advocacy for the zone, meaningful legislative interventions, development projects, youth opportunities, stronger federal presence and a senator who remains accessible to constituents. We also need a culture of reporting back to the people. The people should know what their senator is doing in Abuja. Representation should not be mysterious.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*What is your personal relationship with Attorney Charles Onyirimba, and what informed your decision to accept such a demanding role in his campaign?*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

My relationship with Attorney Charles Onyirimba goes beyond political convenience. I have observed his character, his commitment to people and his desire to contribute to the development of his community. I accepted the responsibility because I believe the project is bigger than an individual. It is about what Okigwe can become. I am supporting him because I believe in the political project and because I believe Okigwe deserves purposeful representation. The greatest way to repay someone who has believed in you is not through praise. It is through excellence.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*That’s powerful. Are you saying that the best way to honour the confidence Onyirimba has placed in you is to deliver electoral success?*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Precisely. Confidence creates responsibility. If someone says, “I believe you can do this,” you owe that person your best effort. My objective is, therefore, not simply to be called Chief Strategist. The title means nothing if the strategy fails. I want to be able to look back after the election and say that I gave everything within my capacity to build a disciplined organisation and present our candidate effectively to the people.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*What, in your honest assessment, has Okigwe been missing politically?*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Strategic representation. Okigwe has brilliant people. The question is how we convert that human capital into political influence and development. We need to stop seeing politics merely as the struggle to occupy office. Politics should be a mechanism for negotiating development for the people, not personal aggradisement. That is the mindset that needs to change.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*Some people argue that Okigwe’s problem is not a shortage of political leaders but a shortage of unity. Do you agree?*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Partly. Political disagreement is normal in a democracy. The real problem is when disagreement becomes destructive and prevents us from pursuing common interests. Or when we allow outsiders and political merchants to impose their stooges on the people. The election should be competitive, but it should not destroy the society we are trying to govern.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*At the end of the day, elections are won at the polling unit. How confident are you that the campaign can translate its current momentum into votes?*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We are confident, but confidence must be accompanied by work, and that is why we will keep working hard. We will not take anything for granted. Every ward matters. Every community matters. Every legitimate voter matters.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*If you had to reduce the entire Onyirimba campaign to three words, what would they be?*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Capacity. Representation. Transformation. Capacity to lead. Representation that produces results. And transformation that people can actually experience.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

*Finally, Chief, what is your message to the people of Okigwe Zone as they approach the 2027 election?*<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I would ask them to look beyond political noise. Look at the candidates. Look at their character. Look at their capacity. Look at their experience. Look at their vision. Ask what they can realistically accomplish, or have accomplished with mandate previously given. And above all, ask what kind of future we want for Okigwe. Elections are not merely about choosing who occupies an office. They are about choosing the direction in which a society travels. We believe Attorney Charles Onyirimba represents an opportunity for Okigwe to demand more from political representation. And if they give us the opportunity to serve, we will understand that victory is not the destination.
