<\/a>bra State. Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the outgoing member representing the constituency, aware of his imminent electoral defeat, has consequently resorted to desperate attempts to manufacture votes instead of earning the confidence of the people.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
During the last voter registration exercise, IPA, as the guardian of Ideato Nation, received credible intelligence that young men and women from Umunze, Umuchu, Uga, Nkpologwu, Oko, Ekwulobia and Ndi Ikerionwu, all in Aguata, Orumba North and Orumba South Local Government Areas of Anambra State, were being paid and transported to register in various communities in Ideato North. One particularly disturbing revelation came when a departmental president at the neighboring Oko Polytechnic confided in one of our campus assets that a senior leader in GDF, Ugochinyere’s campaign organisation, had contracted him to coordinate students of the institution for the fraudulent registrations.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
IPA did not rush to make a public accusation. We laid in wait for the exercise to end and for INEC to publish the preliminary voters’ register, knowing that the register would provide an opportunity to test the intelligence we gathered against actual records. That register is now accessible online, and the findings have confirmed the troubling pattern that triggered our investigations. This is a matter of grave public concern. The electoral integrity of Ideato cannot be sacrificed on the altar of one politician’s ambition.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
To be clear, the figures and names emerging from the register are alarming. Communities in Ideato North sharing boundaries with Anambra State have experienced an extraordinary influx of new, predominantly young registrants bearing surnames commonly associated with neighbouring Anambra communities. In Umuokwara, Akwu, Umuopia and Owerre-Akokwa communities, all in Akokwa where Ugochinyere comes from, IPA has identified a heavy concentration of new registrations involving surnames such as Umunnadili, Ezeliora, Ifemesie, Okpala, Offiah, Chukwurah, Offordile and Onebunne. These are known surnames among our neighbours in Aguata and Orumba, and are never in existence in our communities. Again, community intelligence gathered by IPA indicates that the persons identified in the affected registrations have no residential, ancestral or employment relationships with the communities in which they were imported to register.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Let nobody twist our position: a surname or place of origin does not, by itself, make anybody an illegal voter. What must be established is whether these individuals satisfy the legal requirements for registration in the localities concerned. This is why the provisions of the 2026 Electoral Act must be totally enforced. IPA is also investigating Akpulu, Isiokpo and Obodoukwu, where similar registration irregularities have occurred.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In some Akokwa polling units, the number of registered voters has jumped from about 300 to as many as 875, without any known relocation of people into the community that explains such a dramatic increase. More than 500 additional names in a single polling! This is Akokwa Wonder! Where did these people come from? Where do they live? What brought them into the communities? Who coordinated their registration? Who paid for their transportation, accommodation and other expenses? The people of Ideato cannot be expected to watch their electoral registers swell mysteriously and then pretend that nothing is happening.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The law is clear, and nobody should be allowed to hide behind the geopolitical location of Ideato to commit electoral crime. Section 12(1)(c) of the Electoral Act, 2026 sets out the statutory qualification relating to ordinary residence, work and origin in the Local Government Area, Area Council or Ward covered by the registration centre. Section 23(1)(d) criminalises intentionally procuring the inclusion of oneself or another person in the Register of Voters when one knows that the person ought not to have been registered. Section 23(1)(c) addresses knowingly transmitting a false declaration relating to registration, while Section 23(1)(e) addresses procuring the registration of fictitious persons. The prescribed penalty under Section 23(1) is a fine, imprisonment for up to one year, or both. IPA will not accept any attempt to trivialise these provisions.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Electoral fraud does not begin only when somebody walks into a polling unit and casts a ballot. Where a person knowingly procures the unlawful registration of an ineligible voter, the criminal conduct has already begun at the registration stage.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
We therefore demand that INEC immediately investigate the affected polling units, verify the eligibility of the new registrants, preserve the relevant registration records and biometric data, and refer evidence of suspected offences to the appropriate law enforcement authorities. Every questionable entry must be examined, and every offence established by credible evidence must be dealt with according to law.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Even more disturbing is the political calculation behind the operation. An insider within Ugochinyere’s camp told IPA that the scheme was designed to ensure that even if only Akokwa votes were counted, Ugochinyere would win, irrespective of how the other communities in Ideato North and Ideato South voted. This fresh fact exposes an attempt to reduce the collective voice of an entire federal constituency to a manufactured advantage in one community. Ideato is not the private estate of any politician. Arondizuogu, Urualla, Umuchima, Obodoukwu and any other communities in Ideato have the right to determine who should represent them. Every eligible voter deserves an equal opportunity to determine the constituency’s future.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
It is worrisome to note that in the 2023 elections, Ugochinyere won through the disenfranchisement of the entire Arondizuogu clan, comprising four electoral wards. Now, the people are confronted with allegations of another scheme, this time involving the importation of voters intended to make his home community decisive. IPA will not stand by and watch the electoral future of Ideato placed in the hands of a questionable register.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
We are preparing formal representations to the relevant security agencies in the Anambra communities identified in this statement and to the management of Oko Polytechnic. We demand an investigation into the recruitment, payment, transportation and coordination of students and other persons for registration in Ideato. The allegation that a departmental president was contracted by a senior GDF leader must be examined thoroughly. Anyone implicated must must face the law. No political affiliation, campaign position or institutional office should provide cover for electoral fraud.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
IPA is therefore calling on INEC, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services and all other relevant security agencies to act immediately. A week before the election, we shall work with lawful vigilante groups in Ideato North and Ideato South, alongside the police, to monitor suspicious movements, report suspected suspicious movements and support lawful efforts to prevent electoral crimes. We warn landlords, property owners and residents who knowingly provide accommodation or logistical assistance for the importation of ineligible voters that they will face legal consequences where evidence establishes their participation in, or assistance to, an offence.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
We will not allow the votes of Ideato to be manufactured elsewhere and imported into our communities. We will not allow one man’s political desperation to override the democratic rights of an entire constituency. Ideato belongs to its people, and only the lawful votes of eligible voters must determine who represents them.<\/p>\n
