RE: WHITHER EMEKA IHEDIOHA<\/p>\n

In his essay, see Nigerian Horn May 21-22, 2012, page 9\u00a0Ngozi\u00a0Akamdiocha\u00a0evoked a quote from Teddy Roosevelt in discussing the \u2018man in the arena\u2019 whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood, who strives valiantly, who errs and comes short again and again because there is no effort without error and shortcoming, but who does actually strive to do the deed, who knows the great enthusiasm, the great devotions, who spends himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows that in the end the triumph of high achievement and who at worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly. This quote could be said to\u00a0succinctiy\u00a0describe our president,\u00a0GoodluckJonathan who one can say is making concerted and daring efforts in dealing with the Political, economic and security hydra headed problems bedeviling his administration. President Jonathan can be said to be doing his best in tacking the enigmatic\u00a0Boko\u00a0haramproblem and we only hope and pray that his best be good enough.
\nTo my mind, however, the operative\u00a0words in\u00a0Akamdiocha\u2019s\u00a0thesis is\u00a0checks and balances. His analysis portrays the Federal House of representatives as presently constituted as effective.
\nThe National Assembly is neither an appendage of the Executive arm of Government nor a rubber stamp to approve and pass into law whatever is muted to it. In reality, their major job is to legislate and to check and balance the activities of the executive branch. The legislatures as the peoples\u2019 representatives are also there to protect the generality of the people it represents. This therefore, presupposes that an effective house of Representative as exemplified<\/p>\n

by\u00a0the current composition should be the pride of our President. The\u00a0house of representative have\u00a0never done anything to impugn or tarnish the image of the government but rather it does a good investigative job in matters referred to the chamber. It has done so with integrity and without\u00a0rancour, not even their usual free for all fights.<\/p>\n

Remember the Hon. Felicia\u00a0Etes\u2019 Saga.<\/p>\n

The current House is disciplined and focused, and we have the leadership sagacity of RT. Hon.\u00a0Amina\u00a0Tamburva\u00a0and RT. Hon.\u00a0EmekaIhedioha\u00a0to thank for it.<\/p>\n

It is therefore uncharitable to suggest that President\u00a0Goodluck\u00a0Jonathan will have his mind set to undermine the duo of\u00a0Tambuwan\u00a0andIhedioha.<\/p>\n

Again,\u00a0Akandiocha\u2019s\u00a0euphemistic reference to President Jonathan \u2018large heart is rather unfair, hear him \u201cPresident Jonathan is blessed with a large heart, so he has the capacity to accommodate a lot of things. That is, he is not likely to forget things easily. How PresidentGoodluck\u00a0Jonathan will remember Deputy Speaker\u00a0Emeka\u00a0Ihedioha\u00a0come, 2015 will make or mar the deputy speaker\u2019s ambition as no person is known to have picked PDP\u00a0Guber\u00a0ticket without the express endorsement of Mr. President\u201d.<\/p>\n

Akamdiocha\u00a0in the above assertion forgot that President Jonathan understands the functions of the legislative arm \u2022of Government. President Jonathan is highly educated, enlightened and ebullient and therefore appreciates call to duty. President Jonathan is neither petty nor vindictive and appreciates good materials when he sees one. RT. Hon.\u00a0Emeka\u00a0Ihedioha\u2019s\u00a0headache will never be president<\/p>\n

Jonathan rather the President will be an asset to him. What\u00a0Ihedioha\u00a0should concentrate on is his highly acclaimed superlative performance in the house, his trail blazing\u00a0upliftment\u00a0of his constituency,\u00a0Ngor\u00a0Okpala\/Aboh-Mbaise\u00a0Federal Constituency and his accommodating gesture to\u00a0Imolites\u00a0whenever and wherever he meets them. RT. Hon.\u00a0Amimu\u00a0Tanbuwa\u00a0and RT. Hon.\u00a0Emeka\u00a0Ihediohamust be encouraged to better themselves and their people will surely support them whenever they desire to serve us at a different plain.<\/p>\n

Ngozi\u00a0Akamdiocha\u00a0was also wrong in believing that\u00a0Eze\u00a0Duruhioma\u00a0(San) will work against PDP\u2019S interest because he is from\u00a0IdeatoSouth. Check the history of\u00a0Imo\u00a0State\u00a0politics. When\u00a0was the last time a PDP Chairman\u00a0supported his kinsman from another party to betray his own party. Pray\u00a0Akamdiohca, do you believe\u00a0Duruihioma\u00a0is that fickle minded.<\/p>\n

As RT. Hon.\u00a0Emeka\u00a0Ihedioha\u00a0labours\u00a0to protect our collective interests in\u00a0Abujah, the least he deserves is unnecessary distractions from those at home.<\/p>\n
