Mgbenwelu (Egbendu 1 of Orlu) a Solicitor and Legal Practitioner

Q: As a practical politician, how would you rate the government of Rochas Okorocha and APGA in Imo state?

Ans: Let me start by saying that I don’t see APGA as a political party in Imo state, because they don’t function and exist as one, although they were lucky to have won the election they ushered in Okorocha’s administration. But, the Governor, Owelle himself as a person has performed creditably well the few days he has been in the office with some of the infrastructural development we see here and there.

Q: Sir, are you saying the people of Imo state didn’t vote for APGA in the last Governorship election?

Ans: Nooo! The Imolites voted for an alternative that presented itself in the person of Okorocha who happen to be running with APGA platform. They voted for the alternative that presented itself against Ikedi Ohakim, Ararume and other old politicians, they voted for a new alternative of trial opportunity.

The people saw the New Testament preaching of Okorocha and not APGA as a political party.

Q: Sir let’s talk about the newly re – instated the Council Chiefs, do you think that the Supreme Court can overturn the Appeal Court ruling? The ruling was a unanimous decision by 3 Chief Judges and in my 47years of Legal Practitioner; in rear cases have the Supreme Court overturned the decision of theAppeal Court made by that number of Chief Judges.

However, that they appealed at the Supreme Court alone can’t stop the chairmen from entering their office of work, unless they get a stay of execution and I wouldn’t know if they have obtained that, only that can stop the Council Chiefs from entering the office.

Meanwhile, the statement that the government have not been served with the re – instatement order and they are also saying they have gone to Supreme Court, it amounts to double statement contradicting themselves.

Q: But Sir according to Emma Odor of Owerri – Municipal, he stated that the police escorted them to the office, what do you make of it?

Ans: Well, I can’t quote Emma, but if he said the police escorted them to enter the office, it simply means the Police Commissioner cannot be acting in vacuum.

Q: Sir, can we say that with all this Razzmatazz, Okorocha can still win at the polls in the next election?

Ans: If Okorocha keeps the pace, it will be difficult to dislodge him as those who are criticizing him are lesser than the people who are praising his good work.

Q: But don’t you think that the Owerri Zonal Political Forum (OZOPOLF) may prove a stumbling block to his 2015 ambition?

Ans: Owerri Zone alone is incapable of producing a Governor in Imo state, although in Imo anything is possible politically, but it will be an 8th wonder of the wonder of the world if Owerri zone produces the Governor come next election.

Q: Sir, taking a look at the national level, are you impressed with the level of Governance in terms of Security and other internal issues?

I was reading an article by the CAN President asking the legislators to regulate themselves before regulating Religious preaching as projected by the National Assembly as a way of checking insecurity in the North.

Indeed, the actions of the legislators will make the spirit of our founding fathers to turn upside down in their graves.

You can imagine these day’s government officials are blamed for not stealing enough money to settle the police and his prosecutors, in fact the recent occurrences in the nation is a complete political disaster.

Q: What is your view to the constant Bokoharam disturbances?

Ans: The North do not have any excuse for what they are doing like the Niger Delta militants demanded for some actions of the natural resources exploited in their land. Except for the hunger and illiteracy that is some time being blamed, whose fault is it as they have ruled the country more than any other part of the country.

Q: Sir, how do you view the statement credited to the State Attorney General asking President Goodluck Jonathan to also re – instate Justice Salami just like Goodluck is asking Okorocha to re – instate the Council Chiefs?

Ans: Well, the Salami issue was an advice given by the AJC and not a Court order although the President should have listened as there is no other body higher than the AJC.

I would say that the State Attorney General did make a robust point, because Okorocha actually has a window with the Supreme Court if he appeals.

Q: Sir, it has been a pleasure interacting with you

Ans: Thanks, the pleasure is all mine.

Q: Can we meet you Sir?
