As the Nationwide strike embarked upon by Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) lingers, there are strong indication that those of the Imo State Polytechnic are battle ready to continue the strike as soon as the National calls its own off.
\nTrumpeta investigation reveals that the workers who are set for a mass protest are worried with the managements continued delay in the implementation of the arrears to them.
\nOther areas of their grievances include non-payment of four months arrears of monetization, non-remittance of NASU headquarters 75% check-off dues and withholding of two hundred naira (N200,00) national levy for five (5) years namely 2007, 2008,2009,2010 and 2011.
\nNon- remittance of staff monthly tax deductions to Imo State Government as well as massive recruitment\/employment exercise without council approval.
\nAccording to the information available to this Newspaper, the Rector of the school has employed about three hundred and fifty people and placed some of them above the serving staff thus making their future career progression very bleak.
\n\u201cWorse-still, the monthly Imo state government subvention to the polytechnic based on the 2012 draft estimate can no longer pay staff salaries due to over employment\u201d
\nNASU of the Imo State Polytechnic thanked the Governor of Imo State Owelle Rochas Okorocha for conveying approval for the implementation of the CONTISS 15 migration for the staff of the school.
\nBut said, \u201cwhile lamenting over the slow pace at which the committee set up to handle the exercise is working, the union pleads that efforts should be made by the Governing Council to look for funds to implement the CONTISS 15 migration, pay the accumulated arrears as well as the arrears of the CONTEDISS and staff promotions from 2009-2011\u201d. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
