Last\u00a0Sunday\u00a0in\u00a0Imo\u00a0State\u00a0,\u00a0travelers\u00a0passing\u00a0through\u00a0Okigwe\u00a0Road,\u00a0Owerri,\u00a0had\u00a0a\u00a0hect\u00a0time\u00a0trying\u00a0to\u00a0find\u00a0their\u00a0way\u00a0out\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0jam-packed\u00a0vehicles,\u00a0causing\u00a0traffic\u00a0gridlock.<\/p>\n

For\u00a0some\u00a0time\u00a0now,\u00a0Owerri\u00a0residents\u00a0and\u00a0travelers\u00a0have\u00a0not\u00a0witnessed\u00a0such\u00a0a\u00a0mammoth\u00a0crowd\u00a0of\u00a0people\u00a0along\u00a0the\u00a0serene\u00a0Okigwe\u00a0road.<\/p>\n

Well,\u00a0the\u00a0Peoples\u00a0Democratic\u00a0Party,\u00a0PDP\u00a0Imo\u00a0State\u00a0chapter\u00a0was\u00a0holding\u00a0its\u00a0\u201cStakeholders\u201d\u00a0meeting,\u00a0after\u00a0the\u00a0storm.\u00a0The\u00a0Imo\u00a0PDP\u00a0was\u00a0putting\u00a0its\u00a0heads\u00a0together\u00a0once\u00a0more\u00a0after\u00a0a\u00a0crisis\u00a0that\u00a0nearly\u00a0drove\u00a0the\u00a0nails\u00a0on\u00a0the\u00a0party\u2019s\u00a0coffin.\u00a0But\u00a0luckily\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0party,\u00a0it\u00a0came\u00a0out\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0brouhaha\u00a0with\u00a0its\u00a0soul\u00a0intact.<\/p>\n

After\u00a0much\u00a0persuasion,\u00a0Wike,\u00a0Fayose,\u00a0Rt\u00a0Hon\u00a0Emeka\u00a0Ihedioha,\u00a0members\u00a0of\u00a0PDP\u00a0Board\u00a0of\u00a0Trustees,\u00a0former\u00a0Ministers,\u00a0including\u00a0former\u00a0President\u00a0Goodluck\u00a0Jonathan\u00a0and\u00a0others\u00a0forced\u00a0Sheriff\u00a0to\u00a0hold\u00a0the\u00a0National\u00a0Convention\u00a0at\u00a0last.\u00a0And\u00a0Governor\u00a0Wike\u00a0promised\u00a0to\u00a0host\u00a0the\u00a0occasion\u00a0in\u00a0Portharcourt,\u00a0Rivers\u00a0State.<\/p>\n

Confused\u00a0and\u00a0bewildered,\u00a0the\u00a0Wike\u00a0camp\u00a0went\u00a0back\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0drawing\u00a0Board.\u00a0But\u00a0Sheriff\u00a0headed\u00a0to\u00a0court\u00a0immediately\u00a0he\u00a0arrived\u00a0Abuja.<\/p>\n

From\u00a0there,\u00a0PDP\u00a0went\u00a0into\u00a0a\u00a0long\u00a0legal\u00a0battle\u00a0with\u00a0itself.\u00a0Every\u00a0plea\u00a0to\u00a0Sheriff\u00a0to\u00a0withdraw\u00a0the\u00a0matter\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0spirit\u00a0of\u00a0PDP\u2019s\u00a0ideology\u00a0of\u00a0\u201cFamily\u00a0matter\u201d\u00a0could\u00a0not\u00a0yield\u00a0any\u00a0fruit.<\/p>\n

However,\u00a0before\u00a0the\u00a0Portharcourt\u00a0debacle,\u00a0the\u00a0party\u00a0had\u00a0held\u00a0its\u00a0Ward,\u00a0LGA\u00a0and\u00a0State\u00a0Congress,\u00a0which\u00a0Imo\u00a0was\u00a0part\u00a0of.<\/p>\n

Under\u00a0this\u00a0scenario,\u00a0PDP\u00a0was\u00a0divided\u00a0into\u00a0two\u00a0camps,\u00a0with\u00a0Sheriff\u00a0leading\u00a0one\u00a0Group\u00a0and\u00a0Uche\u00a0Secondus\u00a0championing\u00a0the\u00a0other.<\/p>\n

But\u00a0while\u00a0the\u00a0Ihedioha\u00a0Group\u00a0made\u00a0it\u00a0clear\u00a0that\u00a0it\u00a0will\u00a0pull\u00a0out\u00a0of\u00a0PDP\u00a0to\u00a0either\u00a0float\u00a0another\u00a0political\u00a0party\u00a0or\u00a0join\u00a0an\u00a0existing\u00a0one,\u00a0the\u00a0Hope\u00a0Uzodinma\u00a0Group\u00a0swore\u00a0it\u00a0will\u00a0remain\u00a0in\u00a0PDP\u00a0no\u00a0matter\u00a0the\u00a0outcome.<\/p>\n

Weeks\u00a0ago,\u00a0the\u00a0Hope\u00a0Uzodinma\u00a0people\u00a0were\u00a0touring\u00a0some\u00a0LGAs\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0face\u00a0of\u00a0both\u00a0the\u00a0Supreme\u00a0Court\u00a0judgment\u00a0and\u00a0Convention\u00a0fall-outs\u00a0in\u00a0Abuja.<\/p>\n

Many\u00a0have\u00a0been\u00a0asking\u00a0why\u00a0the\u00a0Hope\u00a0Uzodinma\u00a0Group\u00a0has\u00a0refused\u00a0to\u00a0abide\u00a0by\u00a0any\u00a0of\u00a0its\u00a0vows,\u00a0including\u00a0the\u00a0final\u00a0legal\u00a0determination\u00a0of\u00a0Imo\u00a0PDP\u00a0Executive,\u00a0which\u00a0was\u00a0authenticated\u00a0by\u00a0the\u00a0emergence\u00a0of\u00a0Uche\u00a0Secondus\u00a0as\u00a0the\u00a0dully\u00a0elected\u00a0National\u00a0Chairman\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0party.<\/p>\n

Indeed,\u00a0many\u00a0have\u00a0also\u00a0asked\u00a0that\u00a0the\u00a0Hope\u00a0Uzodinma\u00a0Group\u00a0should\u00a0be\u00a0approached\u00a0for\u00a0reconciliation,\u00a0even\u00a0as\u00a0many\u00a0accuse\u00a0Charles\u00a0Ezekwem\u00a0and\u00a0his\u00a0Chief\u00a0Supporter,\u00a0Hon\u00a0Ihedioha\u00a0of\u00a0high-handedness.<\/p>\n

However\u00a0what\u00a0many\u00a0forgot\u00a0was\u00a0that\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0beginning\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0crisis,\u00a0the\u00a0Ezekwem\u00a0led\u00a0Executive\u00a0had\u00a0extended\u00a0Olive\u00a0branch\u00a0to\u00a0that\u00a0of\u00a0Anyaehie,\u00a0powered\u00a0by\u00a0Hope\u00a0Uzodinma.<\/p>\n

In\u00a0a\u00a0conflict\u00a0resolution,\u00a0there\u00a0are\u00a0modalities,\u00a0which\u00a0include\u00a0shifting\u00a0grounds\u00a0and\u00a0giving\u00a0concessions.<\/p>\n

However,\u00a0it\u00a0is\u00a0quite\u00a0unfortunate\u00a0if\u00a0Imo\u00a0PDP\u00a0loses\u00a0the\u00a0Anyaehie\u00a0Group\u00a0personified\u00a0in\u00a0Senator\u00a0Hope\u00a0Uzodinma.<\/p>\n

But\u00a0it\u00a0must\u00a0be\u00a0noted\u00a0that\u00a0Imo\u00a0PDP\u00a0cannot\u00a0cease\u00a0to\u00a0exist\u00a0because\u00a0one\u00a0person\u00a0or\u00a0Group\u00a0refused\u00a0to\u00a0accept\u00a0status\u00a0quo.\u00a0It\u00a0is\u00a0therefore\u00a0fallacious\u00a0for\u00a0commentators\u00a0to\u00a0heap\u00a0blames\u00a0on\u00a0Charles\u00a0Ezekwem\u00a0and\u00a0Ihedioha\u00a0as\u00a0if\u00a0they\u00a0were\u00a0not\u00a0following\u00a0the\u00a0genesis\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0present\u00a0Imo\u00a0PDP\u00a0crisis.<\/p>\n

What\u00a0many\u00a0should\u00a0ask\u00a0is;\u00a0what\u00a0would\u00a0have\u00a0been\u00a0the\u00a0fate\u00a0of\u00a0Ezekwem,\u00a0Ihedioha\u00a0and\u00a0their\u00a0followers\u00a0had\u00a0Sheriff\u00a0won\u00a0the\u00a0Supreme\u00a0Court\u00a0outing?\u00a0Would\u00a0Ezekwem\u00a0and\u00a0Ihedioha\u00a0been\u00a0concede\u00a0grounds\u00a0after\u00a0they\u00a0had\u00a0said\u00a0they\u00a0would\u00a0leave\u00a0PDP\u00a0if\u00a0they\u00a0lost\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0Court?<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Imo\u00a0scenario\u00a0is\u00a0ironically\u00a0incredible,\u00a0when\u00a0we\u00a0realize\u00a0that\u00a0Sheriff\u00a0who\u00a0started\u00a0all\u00a0these\u00a0has\u00a0since\u00a0moved\u00a0on,\u00a0including\u00a0attending\u00a0APC\u00a0meetings.<\/p>\n

It\u00a0shows\u00a0that\u00a0Sheriff\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0man\u00a0of\u00a0his\u00a0words,\u00a0by\u00a0obeying\u00a0the\u00a0court\u00a0judgment,\u00a0while\u00a0his\u00a0followers\u00a0in\u00a0Imo\u00a0State\u00a0keep\u00a0fighting\u00a0even\u00a0after\u00a0the\u00a0war\u00a0has\u00a0be\u00a0declared\u00a0won\u00a0and\u00a0lost.<\/p>\n

However,\u00a0the\u00a0last\u00a0outing\u00a0on\u00a0Sunday\u00a0by\u00a0Imo\u00a0PDP\u00a0is\u00a0an\u00a0indication\u00a0that\u00a0the\u00a0party\u00a0has\u00a0resurrected\u00a0again\u00a0against\u00a0evil\u00a0permutations.\u00a0Those\u00a0who\u00a0stayed\u00a0away\u00a0from\u00a0the\u00a0meeting\u00a0that\u00a0day\u00a0were\u00a0not\u00a0missed,\u00a0rather\u00a0they\u00a0would\u00a0be\u00a0the\u00a0ones\u00a0to\u00a0regret,\u00a0as\u00a0the\u00a0entire\u00a0Imo\u00a0PDP\u00a0premises\u00a0was\u00a0filled\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0brim\u00a0with\u00a0valuable\u00a0personages.<\/p>\n

But\u00a0really,\u00a0the\u00a0absence\u00a0of\u00a0Senator\u00a0Hope\u00a0Uzodinma\u00a0and\u00a0Chief\u00a0Ikedi\u00a0Ohakim\u00a0was\u00a0felt,\u00a0because\u00a0PDP\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0family\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0more\u00a0the\u00a0merrier.<\/p>\n

Having\u00a0said\u00a0this,\u00a0we\u00a0must\u00a0realize\u00a0that\u00a0every\u00a0Leader\u00a0has\u00a0a\u00a0role\u00a0to\u00a0play\u00a0in\u00a0PDP,\u00a0but\u00a0no\u00a0Leader\u00a0exists\u00a0without\u00a0followers.\u00a0But\u00a0if\u00a0certain\u00a0Leaders\u00a0have\u00a0decided\u00a0to\u00a0chart\u00a0a\u00a0new\u00a0course,\u00a0that\u00a0will\u00a0not\u00a0stop\u00a0the\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0existence\u00a0of\u00a0Imo\u00a0PDP\u00a0because\u00a0nature\u00a0abhors\u00a0vacuum.<\/p>\n

We\u00a0must\u00a0also\u00a0take\u00a0note\u00a0that\u00a0some\u00a0of\u00a0these\u00a0Leaders\u00a0we\u00a0argue\u00a0for\u00a0never\u00a0won\u00a0their\u00a0political\u00a0Wards\u00a0in\u00a0elections,\u00a0talkless\u00a0of\u00a0their\u00a0LGAs.\u00a0If\u00a0a\u00a0Leader\u00a0is\u00a0judged\u00a0by\u00a0his\u00a0contributions\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0party,\u00a0we\u00a0must\u00a0not\u00a0over-look\u00a0elections,\u00a0which\u00a0is\u00a0the\u00a0most\u00a0important\u00a0to\u00a0a\u00a0political\u00a0party.\u00a0So,\u00a0what\u00a0would\u00a0it\u00a0benefit\u00a0Imo\u00a0PDP\u00a0if\u00a0a\u00a0Leader\u00a0cannot\u00a0work\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0party\u00a0to\u00a0win\u00a0in\u00a0his\/her\u00a0domain\u00a0during\u00a0elections\u00a0and\u00a0yet\u00a0occupy\u00a0front\u00a0seats\u00a0at\u00a0meetings\u00a0as\u00a0a\u00a0Leader?<\/p>\n

What\u00a0Imo\u00a0PDP\u00a0should\u00a0do\u00a0now\u00a0is\u00a0to\u00a0galvanize\u00a0itself\u00a0and\u00a0create\u00a0more\u00a0Leaders,\u00a0since\u00a0others\u00a0have\u00a0vacated,\u00a0because\u00a0the\u00a0ship\u00a0must\u00a0sail\u00a0on.<\/p>\n

Already,\u00a0PDP\u00a0has\u00a0a\u00a0lot\u00a0of\u00a0things\u00a0going\u00a0for\u00a0it\u00a0in\u00a0Imo.\u00a0No\u00a0one\u00a0needs\u00a0to\u00a0be\u00a0told\u00a0that\u00a0PDP\u00a0administrations\u00a0both\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0States\u00a0and\u00a0National\u00a0level\u00a0raised\u00a0the\u00a0bar\u00a0of\u00a0development\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0masses\u00a0then.<\/p>\n

Last Sunday in Imo State , travelers passing through Okigwe Road, Owerri, had a hect time trying to find their way out of the jam-packed vehicles, causing traffic gridlock. For some time now, Owerri residents and travelers have not witnessed such a mammoth crowd of people along the serene Okigwe road. Well, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Imo State chapter was holding its “Stakeholders” meeting, after the storm. The Imo PDP was putting its heads together once more after a crisis that nearly drove the nails on the party’s coffin. But luckily for the party, it came out of the brouhaha with its soul intact. The Peoples Democratic Party Imo State had been engulfed in a fire that nearly consumed the party. Although the party in the State got involved in the whole saga through “transfer of aggression” but it nearly paid the price with a demise. How did it all start? The former National Chairman of the party, Alhaji  Aminu Muazu, after the party lost the Presidential election under Goodluck Jonathan, eloped into exile. He may have feared what would follow after the 2015 election tsunami, if it was deciphered that some elements in the Northern part of the country in PDP connived with the then opposition All Progressive Congress APC, to dislodge PDP from Aso Rock. Under the disappearing act by the former Governor of Bauchi State, the Deputy Chairman, Chief Uche Secondus stepped in under interim contraption. But the North where the position of National Chairman was zoned to wanted their position back so as to finish four years tenure left midway by Muazu. So, the Governors of PDP led by Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and Nyesom Wike of Rivers State resolved to shop for a Northern fellow who will continue for Muazu. After a long search, the lot fell on a former Governor of Borno State and Senator, Alhaji Modu Sheriff. The arrangement was that Sheriff will within a few months conduct a convention where a new National Chairman will emerge to run a fresh mandate. And he\/she must come from the North. However, as time went on, Sheriff began to dig in and consolidate on the job. Rather than listen to the people who brought him into office, the former Borno State Governor began to scheme to remain in office infinitum, without giving any more thought to a National Convention. Naturally, to remain in office, Sheriff sought across Nigeria for those who will back his plot to remain in office. He did not even need to worry about that because there were a lot of politicians who were ready to do his bidding, provided he also helps them in their own ambitions in 2019 elections. But when Wike, Fayose and others discovered that Sheriff was not ready to conduct any Convention, they pilled pressure on him. By then it had started getting clearer  that Sheriff would not only want to contest for the National Chairmanship position whenever the convention holds, against the earlier agreement that he would not,  so as to produce an acceptable National Chairman, the Senator was also scheming to pick PDP’s Presidential ticket for 2019 election. Therefore, when all these information got to the PDP heavy weights, they started fighting Sheriff to hold the Convention. But by then Sheriff had recruited his own men, and was also fighting back with what he had.
