\nGovernor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State said that the present changes
\nbeing experienced in the Imo Health sector is revolutionary.
\nHe made this assertion while addressing members of the Nigerian
\nMedical association (NMA) who paid him a courtesy call at the
\nGovernment House, Owerri.
\nAccording to the governor, the health facilities he met on ground at
\nthe inception of his administration were in a sorry state, stating
\nthat the hospitals could better be described as shanties and
\npiggeries.
\n\u201cThe Abysmal performance of our hospitals resulted to poor patronage
\nby Imolites as most of these hospitals could no more justify the huge
\namount the government used to subvent them,\u201d the governor explained.
\nGov. Okorocha disclosed that his administration was doing everything
\nwithin its power to change the situation, stressing that the
\ngovernment was presently building 27 General Hospitals in all the 27
\nlocal government areas of Imo state, which when completed would be
\nfully equipped with modern medical equipment to avail the people
\nquality health care services.
\nHe said that government has adopted a public private partnership by
\nconcession of some hospitals with most of them already doing well and
\ntherefore appealed to NMA to partner with him in the new health
\nprogramme known as health-at-your-door-step.
\nEarlier, the National President of the Association, Dr. Osaghe
\nOnabuleli, informed the governor that they were in the state to offer
\nfree medical treatment to Imolites which he said commenced at Mbaise
\nand will move to Orlu the next day.\u00a0 He said that the association was
\nready to partner with the governor in his drive to revolutionalize
\nhealth care in the state.
\nDr. Onabuleli appealed to the government to look into the case of 8
\nDoctors sacked as a result of the conflict between Imo state Hospitals
\nManagement and staff, with the aim to reabsorbing them and requested
\nfor the increase of subvention to hospitals and employ more hands to
\nimprove the manpower need of the hospitals.
\nThe President on behalf of the association thanked the governor for
\ndonating a vehicle to the association and for appointing four of their
\nmembers into his cabinet, and the payment of the consolidated salary
\nstructure.
\nHe used the opportunity to invite the governor to their National
