{"id":28753,"date":"2020-06-05T13:13:17","date_gmt":"2020-06-05T13:13:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.imotrumpeta.com\/?p=28753"},"modified":"2020-06-05T13:13:20","modified_gmt":"2020-06-05T13:13:20","slug":"imo-assembly-abolishes-cgc-law-amends-ndi-eze-law-to-empower-governor-to-appoint-officers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.imotrumpeta.com\/?p=28753","title":{"rendered":"Imo Assembly Abolishes CGC Law, Amends Ndi Eze Law To Empower Governor To Appoint Officers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>By\nOnyekachi Eze&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fourth tier of government\nestablished by a former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, the\nCommunity Government Council, CGC, is now a thing of the past, following an\namendment and repealing of the law by the State House of Assembly.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Okorocha on his second tenure in office\nhad through the State Assembly passed into law, the establishment of the CGC,\nwhich then empowered few selected individuals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the yesterday&#8217;s plenary session, the\nHouse passed into law the bill for a law to amend the Imo State of Nigeria\nTraditional Rulers, Autonomous Communities and Allied matters law No. 15 of\n2016 (as amended).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his presentation, the Majority\nleader, Hon Uche Ogbuagu said the amendment if finally assented by the\ngovernor, Hope Uzodinma will repeal the CGC, remunerations of the retired\nChairmen and Deputies of the Imo council of Traditional Rulers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lawmakers described the CGC\narrangement as illegal in the first place, for not having any constitutional\nbacking.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The members of the 8th House present at\nthe 9th House confirmed that they passed it into law then due to the pressure\nthat was mounted on them, adding that the advent of the CGC almost ruined the\nforemost town Unionism in the State.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hence, they expressed optimism that with\nthe amendment and repealing of the law, town unions will be revived, and made\nto serve the purpose it was known for.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also passed into law was an authority\ngranted to the State governor to be appointing Chairman and Deputy Chairman of\nthe Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was debated that leaving Ndi Ezes to\nbe campaigning and contesting for the revered stool of Eze Imo was a great\nmistake.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to them, traditional rulers\nshould not be allowed to be engaging in politics whatsoever, rather should be\nfully incharge of their communities with full support of the government.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was said that during the cause of\ncanvassing for leadership support, the monarchs go as length as spending money\nin lobbying for supports, and turn back later to ask for refund.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lawmakers believed that the law will\nfully return the dignity of Ndi Eze, and their revered stool, as well as\nworking fully with whoever the governor of the State &#8216;wisely and divinely&#8217;\nappoints to head the traditional institution.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interesting, Ogbuagu revealed that\nbefore now, retired traditional council chairman of Ndi Eze Imo and their\ndeputies were paid monthly #500,000 and #250,000 respectively.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Against this backdrop, the legislators\nhinged on the fact that repealing of all remuneration will go a long way in\nsaving more funds for the State, and to be exerted in other ventures like\npayment of salaries and pensions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Onyekachi Eze&nbsp;
