Imo State governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha has as part of the strategic
\nmeasures aimed at intensifying the war against kidnapping and crime in
\nthe state launched a special vigilante outfit christened Imo Security
\nNetwork.<\/p>\n

Governor Okorocha at its inauguration at the Ahijoku Convention
\ncenter, Owerri explained that the outfit is put in place to compliment
\nthe efforts of the security agencies, community vigilate groups and
\ntraditional rulers who by the provisions of the community government
\nare the chief security officers in their respective communities
\ntowards making Imo a crime free state.<\/p>\n

While throwing light on the operation of the outfits, governor
\nOkorocha said \u201cimo Security Network that is being inaugurated today is
\nto compliments the efforts of security agencies and the already
\nexisting vigilante groups.\u00a0 They will also collaborate with the
\ntraditional rulers whose position as chairman of Community government
\nhave placed them as chief security officers in their various
\ncommunities.\u00a0 These gentlemen will no longer live in their homes but
\nin places that will be provided for them as barracks in nine locations
\nacross the state.\u00a0 They will introduce themselves to the people with
\nphone numbers that will be dedicated for their operations and in the
\ncase of suspicion, they will be called upon for prompt responds.\u00a0 Each
\nteam will be attached with a police man to ensure that they operate
\nwithin the ambit of the law\u201d<\/p>\n

The governor who charged them to operate within the ambit of the law
\nas his administration will not tolerate any form of indiscipline,
\nextortion and harassment of innocent citizens, further describe the
\noutfit as a vigilante outfit approved by government and established by
\nthe law with powers to check crime in partnership with the Nigerian
\nPolice Force and other security agencies.
\nGovernor Okorocha also canvassed for synergy and healthy collaboration
\nbetween Imo Security Network and other security agencies in the
\ncollective fight against crime in the state.
\n\u201cLet me say that Imo Security Network is set up by the law and with
\nfull awareness of Imo State Government as should be treated as a
\nsecurity outfit in partnership with the police to check crime.\u00a0 Even
\nas the state will not tolerate indiscipline, extortion and harassment
\nof innocent citizens by men of this security outfit, may I also say in
\nthe same manner that no one should intimidate Imo Security network\u201d<\/p>\n

Governor Okorocha further explained that the operations of Imo
\nSecurity Network will include fishing out the hideout of the
\nkidnappers and criminal by combing the forests and uncompleted
\nbuilding in the nooks and crannies of the state.
\nHe however urged the people to join in the relentless war against
\ncrime in the state by volunteering useful information that will lead
\nto the arrest of suspected kidnappers and crimes operating in the
\nstate.
\nEarlier in his speech, the Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr Ifeanyi
\nNwachukwu said Imo Security Network comprises of 324 men drawn from
\nthe 27 LGA of the state and trained by the security department Imo
\ncollege of Advance Professional Studies [ICAPS] manned by American
\nSecurity expert.
\nThe Senior Special Assistant on Security [Administration] Barr Okey
\nOkorocha also in his remarks said the men of Imo Security Network
\nwhere trained to assist the security agencies to overcome the
\nchallenges of insecurity in the state.
\nThe commissioner of Police, Mr Adisa Bolanta represented by the Asst.
\nCommissioner of police [Operations] of Imo State Command and heads of
\nother security agencies declared to collaborate effectively in making
\nImo a crime free state and safe during the yuletide.<\/p>\n
