{"id":36793,"date":"2022-07-01T07:30:12","date_gmt":"2022-07-01T07:30:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.imotrumpeta.com\/?p=36793"},"modified":"2022-07-01T07:30:13","modified_gmt":"2022-07-01T07:30:13","slug":"obikwelu-tips-uchegbulem-as-good-enough-to-replace-amaju-as-nff-president-amanze-and-obikweleu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.imotrumpeta.com\/?p=36793","title":{"rendered":"Obikwelu Tips Uchegbulem As &#8216;Good Enough&#8217; To Replace Amaju As Nff President Amanze and Obikweleu"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Two time Anambra State Football Association Vice Chairman and retired referee, Barrister Jude-Benjamin Chukwudi Obikwelu, is standing strongly behind the NFF Presidential ambition of Amanze Uchegbulem, saying the Imo FA boss is &#8216;highly experienced and good enough&#8217; to steer the ship of Nigeria Football as successor to incumbent President, Amaju Melvin-Pinnick.<br>The NFF Elective Congress is slated for September 2022, Amidst litigation by some concerned stakeholders.<br>Obikwelu, himself, says he&#8217;s ready to contribute his wealth of experience to further advance Nigerian football in the capacity of NFF Board member.<br>JBC would strongly oppose the clamour for ex-Super Eagles players to be elected as\u00a0 NFF President as currently being canvassed by a large pool of retired footballers.<br>Obikwelu, who was Vice Chairman of Anambra State Football Association under Chief Mike Umeh and\u00a0 Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, declared that being a good footballer in one\u2019s playing career does not always translate to being a sound football administrator.<br>Obikwelu posits former Super Eagles players should be considered for the national teams coaching jobs where they have better flair, insisting that it takes a lot more to run the NFF than just being a former footballer.<br>\u201cAmanze Uchegbulem is a good and sound football administrator. He\u2019s highly experienced, as former Vice President of the NFF and I believe he has the capacity and acumen to take Nigeria to the next level,\u201d Obikwelu said.<br>Obikwelu revealed his intention to run for the NFF Board membership as representative of the South East.<br>\u201cAs for me, yes, I\u2019m interested in the NFF elections, but as a Board member.<br>\u201cThere\u2019s time for everything. I was the Anambra State FA Vice Chairman during Mike Umeh\u2019s regime.<br>\u201cI was also Vice Chairman during the Senator Ifeanyi Ubah\u2019s tenure as Anambra FA Chairman.<br>\u201cDuring those periods, especially during Senator Ifeanyi Ubah\u2019s tenure, I was more like a \u2018defacto chairman\u2019 because I acted as chairman in most cases because the chairman was not always around.<br>\u201cSo, I\u2019ve paid my dues and believe I need to make a step up with NFF Board membership\u201d, JBC explained.<br>On ex players clamour for the grab the steering of Nigeria Football, Obikwelu reckoned that ex players should learn the administrative rope from being part of their different State FA boards or better still, handling the various levels of the national teams.<br>\u201cThere\u2019s a world of gap between playing football and administering football\u201d, Obikwelu sounded.<br>\u201cPlaying football and administering football are completely two different things.<br>&#8220;You can be a fantastic player in your playing days, but turns out to be a bad coach.<br>\u201cMost global top class coaches may not have been Star players in their playing days.<br>\u201cMost of them (good coaches) even stopped playing at intermediate level.<br>\u201cIt\u2019s just like lecturers. Most First Class students don\u2019t make First Class Lecturers.<br>\u201cManaging Nigerian Football in the capacity of NFF President requires much because you are going to interface with FIFA, CAF and other global, continental and sub continental bodies.<br>\u201cYou\u2019re also going to interface with government, sponsors and the like.<br>\u201cDon\u2019t forget that as NFF President, you are saddled with the responsibility of administering all the national teams; Super Eagles, U23 Eagles, Flying Eagles, U17 Golden Eaglets, Super Falcons, Flamingoes, as well as all the Nigerian leagues; NPFL, NWFL, etc.<br>So, it requires lots of integrity, capacity, capability and administrative acumen.<br>\u201cBut if it is managing (coaching) the national team, you can say, yes, the ex players can come in but then, like I said earlier, it\u2019s not cast in stone\u201d.<br>Amanze Uchegbulem, Chief Fan (Ezinwa Mbaise) Ndubuoke, Christian Emeruwa, Ben &#8216;Austria Bomber&#8217; Akwuegbu, Jonathan Akpoborie and Idah Peterside are understood to have have expressed interet in the race to succeed Amaju Melvin-Pinnick as NFF President.<br>Obikwelu also reflects on the fact that Anambra State Football Association is without a substantive chairman and posits that the board led by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah would soon be reinstated by FIFA.<br>\u201cYou\u2019re aware that the last Anambra FA election was inconclusive.
