The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Imo State Council, has decried the man-made hardship in the State with regard to the high cost of Petroleum Products, culminating in skyrocketing prices of food items, in addition to banks\u2019 inefficient services to customers in dispensing the new Naira notes,\u00a0and called on the Government to intervene to ameliorate the people’s sufferings.<\/p>\n
This was contained in a Communiqu\u00e9 issued at the end of\u00a0 the February NUJ Congress held at NUJ\u00a0\u00a0New Secretariat, New Owerri, on Friday, 3rd February , 2023, which Rose to condemn in its entirety, the mindless killings of people in the State for whatever reasons, especially the recent gruesome and deliberate murder of a Customary Court Chairman at Ejemekwuru in Oguta Local Government Area, of the State, Mr. Nnaemeka Ugboma.<\/p>\n
The Communiqu\u00e9 signed by the Communiqu\u00e9 Drafting Committee (CDC);<\/p>\n
Edison Okereke, Stanley Okehie, ThankGod Emeh, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma, NUJ Council Chairman, and Treasure Ihechi-Nwamah, NUJ Council Secretary also condemned the exorbitant rates charged by\u00a0Point of Sales (POS) Operators, and commended resolutions adopted at the National Special Delegates Conference in Kano, in respect to the reviewed NUJ Constitution, and pledged total support and commitment to the provisions of the amended Constitution.<\/p>\n
The well-attended inaugural Congress also commended the State Government for sponsoring a-one-day professional development workshop for practicing Journalists in the State, describing it as the first of its kind.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Congress commended the new Council Chairman, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma on his emergence, even as it doffed its Hat for Chief Christopher Akaraonye over his patience and sacrifice in sustaining the Council during his tenure, and charged members to be actively involved in their Chapels, as well as pay their check-off dues regularly, and warned that any Chapel that falls short of its responsibilities to the Union would be denied of its deserved privileges.<\/p>\n
