Over the weekend the\u00a0institute for Crises Resolution, Peace Building and Conciliation (ICRPC), in conjunction with United\u00a0For Peace (UFP)\u00a0Imo State chapter, held a one day peace building and conflict resolution conference in Imo State.<\/p>\n
The well attended conference ,\u00a0 cum induction and\u00a0 award ceremony , which took place at Rock view Hotel at the Capital\u00a0 City of Owerri , with the theme: Mediation, Negotiation Skills , Conflict Resolution and Peace Building\u00a0 , witnessed the presence of high profiled personalities from within and outside the state who graced the event,\u00a0 amongst whom is the ICRPC , UFP coordinator Rev . Dr. Austin Uchegbu,\u00a0FICRPC,\u00a0\u00a0Rt Hon Chike Olemgbe, (Speaker Imo House of Assembly) ably\u00a0\u00a0represented, HRM. Eze. Dr. (Amb) Goodluck Obi, JP, FICRPC, MSPSP (Ofo Dim Ubulu Ihejiofor Ancient Kingdom , HRH\u00a0\u00a0Eze\u00a0\u00a0Sir Dr Matthew Nwokoma . MPA, JP (Okaa–Omee IV Of Umuokanne Ancient Kingdom\u00a0 in Ohaji Egbema LGA),\u00a0 MD Imo State\u00a0 Micro Finance Bank Hon . Lady Blessing Nwaoba and host of other dignitaries.<\/p>\n
In a welcome address presented by\u00a0 Rev. Dr. Austin Uchegbu\u00a0 he spoke extensively on the need for\u00a0 peace and the\u00a0 danger\u00a0 of crises and violent conflict , Rev. Uchegbu extolled the Imo State Government under the watch of Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma\u00a0 for his tireless efforts in tackling the security challenges in Imo\u00a0 state , he reiterated that the conference\u00a0 has been scheduled to compliment\u00a0 the effort of the Imo state\u00a0 , so as to have a sustainable development and peaceful\u00a0 second tenure of the 3R administration .<\/p>\n
Speaking further, Rev. Uchegbu maintained that the conference was made possible because ICRPC and UFP share a related vision\u00a0 as peace builders and conflict resolution practitioners , while the institute for crises resolution , peace building and conciliation is a professional body of Peace\u00a0 building practitioners and mediators. He said United for peace, Imo State is for both professionals and non professionals of peace advocates, mediators and conflict resolvers.<\/p>\n
Rev. Uchegbu seized the platform to give an insight of some security tips and dimensions that could be adopted to build a crime free environment, he said ” Today’s drone can even snap an individual and use the person’s dimensions to find him or her in the crowd, yes it is available in Nigeria, even by extension in the south east ” he\u00a0submitted.\u00a0 He commended the awardees, he disclosed that the awardees where being appreciated for their efforts in promoting peace\u00a0in this dying world.<\/p>\n
Rev Uchegbu also pleaded with good spirited individuals\u00a0, cooperate organizations, and Imo\u00a0 State government to assist in enhancing the capacity of\u00a0 Peace building\u00a0 via , provision of an office block for a Secretariat\u00a0 for the smooth running of his advocacy\u00a0 and\u00a0 other partnerships\u00a0 that will enable the organization to train people on crises\u00a0 resolution , mediation , and Peace building .<\/p>\n
Earlier in his opening remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Amb. Engr Peter\u00a0C Ohagwa (KSC, FCAI) Director General\u00a0Bureau for Peace and Conflict Resolution\/ Commander\u00a0 \u00a0 Imo State Peace Corps. applauded the organizers for a good timing, he said ” The conference couldn’t have come in a better time than now ” he expressed, Amb Ohagwa said\u00a0the institution will go a long way to assist in the maintenance of peace and tranquility in Imo State,\u00a0he advised that\u00a0 forestry officers should be upgraded ,\u00a0trained ,\u00a0 equipped , and deployed to the forest to help curb excess insecurity<\/p>\n
In their respective speeches, HRM Eze .Dr. Goodluck Obi , HRH .Eze Sir .Dr .\u00a0 Mattew Nwokoma , MPA , JP , also commended the 2024 conference , with the hope\u00a0 that it will go a long way to ensure a more secured Imo State.<\/p>\n
The climax of the event is paper presentations by resource persons viz HRM\u00a0 Eze Dr\u00a0 \u00a0Good luck Obi,( Peace Building And Non Violent Approach To Conflict\u00a0 Resolution ) , Dr Emma Achus Jab ( Conflict Transformation , Peace Building And National Development ) , Dr Solomon Oduma (The power of mediation in conflict resolution\u00a0 process ) , CP Aboki Danjuma\u00a0 , Imo State Commissioner\u00a0 of Police (The Role Of Community Policing In Conflict Resolution And Peace Building ) ,\u00a0 other highlights are\u00a0 induction of fellow\u00a0 membership\u00a0 , Presentation of awards, good will messages\u00a0\u00a0and other activities.<\/p>\n
