<\/a><\/p>\nThe member who represents Ideato \u2013 South State Constituency at the
\nState House of Assembly, Hon. Ikechukwu Amuka has been appointed the
\nChief whip of the Imo State House of Assembly following the
\nresignation of Hon. Ugonna Ozuruigbo (OZB) of Nwangele.
\nHon. Amuka\u2019s appointment as the new Chief Whip was announced at
\nplenary by the speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu. He has
\nresumed duties with the clerk of the House directed to adjust his
\nrecords to reflect the change. Meanwhile, the house has passed a
\nresolution urging the chairman of the State Universal Basic Education
\nBoard (SUBEB) to convert the appointment of teachers in the State from
\n\u201cNon \u2013 Tutorial Staff\u201d to \u201cTutorial Staff\u201d so as to be properly placed
\nto enable them earn their requisite remuneration
\nHon. Victor Ndunagu of Mbaitoli State Constituency who sponsored the
\nmotion argued that, it is not only demoralizing and counter productive
\nbut, a great injustice to employ qualified teaches as \u201cNon \u2013 Tutorial\u201d
\nand thereafter post them to classrooms to teach without commensurate
\nremuneration, stressing that, based on their experience, justice
\ndemands that they should be converted to tutorial staff to give them
\nsense of belonging as well as bring out the best in them.
\nSupporters of the motion contended that, the people concerned had
\nshown great humility and loyalty by accepting such a situation where
\ntheir potentials were under-utilized despite their qualification and
\npointed out that, it is only fair that they be accorded all the rights
\nand privileges that accompany the nature of the job they were doing
\nand blamed the civil service system for such ugly situation.
\nHowever, the motion did not scale through without stiff opposition
\nfrom the likes of Hon. Emeka Nwofor of Ngor-Okpala State Constituency
\nwho argued that, the entry behaviour of the so called non \u2013 tutorial
\nstaff was fraudulent, stressing that, teaching goes with passion and
\nthat whoever hides his or her education qualification and picks job as
\na non \u2013 educationist has no passion for teaching.
\nHe argued that, teaching is not what one gets from the profession but,
\nwhat he or she becomes of it, pointing out that, if the people
\nconcerned should be converted, they should be properly re-trained, and
\ninformed that, past administration used employment to shore up their
\nelectoral fortunes and the present administration should not be made
\nto bear the brunt of their illegality.
\nConsequent upon the interest and controversy generated by the motion,
\nthe speaker, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu setup a committee headed by
\nHon. Victor Ndunagu to look into the possibility of drafting a bill to
\nbe passed by the State House of Assembly to help certify and regulate
\nthe employment of teachers in the State with the mandate to organize
\npublic hearing as well as call for memoranda from the public,
\nespecially, from the stakeholders on the way forward.
\nHe disclosed that, the committee would be the most important committee
\nsetup by the House in view of the fact that education forms the
\nfulcrum of the present administration and touches every family as well
\nas deals with the future of Imo children and expressed optimism that
\nthe members would give the committee their best. Other members of the
\ncommittee are; Hons Eudora Igwe, Luke Chukwu, Mike Ndubuaku, Stan Dara
\nand Acho Ihim as well as Emeka Nwofor, Adaku Ihuoma and Obioma
