\nAhiazu Mbaise LGA Head of Department Health, Mrs. Callista Chimezie has
\ncharged health workers to ensure 100% immunization of children 0 to 5
\nyears this Second Round National Immunization Plus Days (NIPD’s).
\nShe gave the charge while addressing focal ward persons and supervisors
\nat the commencement of the exercise in the area.
\nMrs. Chimezie assured adequate vaccines and logistics for the 4-day
\nprogramme that started Saturday, 2nd March, 2013 and
\nurged them to work hard to reach out to the targeted children
\npopulation.
\nThe HOD enjoined parents and caregivers to avail the opportunity offered
\nby programme and present their children for the vaccines irrespective
\nof immunization status to avert paralysis, deformity or death of child
\ndue to highly infectious Wild Polio Virus (WPV).
\nShe reiterated that two drops of life-saving Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV)
\nadministered house to house, in churches, schools, health centres and
\noutreach post\u00a0 simultaneously with routine immunization at fix and
\ntemporary health centres was a strategy to check other killer diseases
\nlike measles, yellow fever, whooping cough, tuberculosis, diphtheria and
\ntetanus that could cause the death of mother or child.
\nMrs. Chimezie encouraged vaccinators and recorders to put in their best
\nand ensure accurate markings and records of houses and children
\nvaccinated.
\nSpeaking, the Local Immunization Officer, (LIO) Mr. Donatus Ohaka urged
\nthe vaccination team to liaise with traditional rulers, community
\nleaders, village, religious and school heads for thorough coverage.
\nHe stressed need for prompt report of rejection cases of OPV
\nadministration to children by parents, caregivers, schools and\u00a0 faith
\nbased organization for necessary attention.
\nMr. Ohaka explained that infection of one child with WPV exposes others
\nto pandemia risk and called for collective efforts to sustain the free
\npolio status.
\nHe appreciated joint efforts of local governments and states, the
\nfederal government and development partners such as UNICEF, Who Health
\nOrganization (WHO), Rotary International for Bill Gates Foundation for
\ncontinued support to eradicate polio.<\/p>\n
