A High Court sitting in Owerri on the 27th of June 2013, cautioned and discharged Eze Mathew Onweni, the traditional ruler of Ogbor autonomous community, in Isiala Mbano LGA, and the Chairman of Okigwe Council of traditional rulers over theft of N1000.<\/p>\n
Delivering judgment on the case between Mathew Onweni, (the accused) and Mr Livinus Okoro, the (complainant) who is diseased, in High Court 6, cautioned and discharged the Monarch for his plea for leniency tendered by the accused before the state High court.<\/p>\n
According to the judge, Eze Onweni had on 9th October 1987 collected the sum of N1000 from Mr Livy Okoro in order to leave the Ezeship stool of Ogbor for him, but later refused to abide by the agreement reached between the two of them. Instead he (the Eze) went to the police to report that the defendant has stolen N800 from him,<\/p>\n
Hearing from the acquitted, Eze Onweni, shortly after the ruling, he said the judge is very competent and fair in his judgment having understood the provision of Igbo tradition.<\/p>\n
Also, the council to Eze Onweni, Barr VC Ezeji, described judge as a sound arbiter for giving sound judgment. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
