Over 20,000 youths yesterday, December 22nd, stormed the Imo State Secretariat Complex to demand for their unpaid allowances.
A visit to the secretariat complex along Port Harcourt road Owerri showed that the offices were locked as most of the youths demanding for their money could not gain entrance while others managed to fight for their money.
One of the aggrieved youth who spoke to newsmen revealed that the state government have not been taking good care of them since they were recruited.
According to the beneficiary, the state government has not paid them for more than four months now.
Investigations revealed that Imo State government planned to pay the youths completely before the end of the month.
Meanwhile Governor Rochas Okorocha is said to have directed the head of service and Accountant General of the state to commence payment without delay.
The governor has since promised to treat them better next year.
Further information from the government house disclosed that more youths will be employed by next year.
But concerned citizens of Imo State have advised the governor to make sure that he makes permanent, the employment of the youths in the Youth Must Work programme.
