The Catholic Archbishop of Owerri Archdiocese Archbishop Anthony Obinna is a typical Igbo man any day. Since his days at Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri, as a teacher, the head of the clergy in Owerri Diocese has not hidden his love for Igbo language and culture. No wonder he asked to be called Amarachi.
He did not stop his Igbocentric crusade by answering Amarachi, he went further to introduce Odenigbo, a culture – oriented academic exercise with Catholic doctrine touch. The annual Odenigbo lecture has a touch of culture meant to uplift our tradition and way of life. In this year’s edition, the soft spoken cleric addressed the press with Igbo language. In the press conference meant to herald this year’s Odenigbo scheduled to take place this weekend, Amarachi Obinna addressed newsmen in Igbo language. Even his address was written in Igbo. POPULAR SIDE however wants Amarachi to continue the campaign for Igbo language and ask for the invention of a computer for Igbo language.
