The parish priest of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish World Bank, Rev Fr Ikwuegbu and other priests living with him narrowly escaped death last Wednesday when early morning fire raised down part of their residence.
Trumpeta gathered that it was a miracle for the priests of the Holy Trinity parish to come out alive from the fire incidence which caused serious panic in the area.
The parish priest who narrated the story said he heard spark and taught that it was gunshots by armed robbers.
According to him, “The noise continued and he decided to get up to know what is really happening. When I got up, I started perceiving smell of burning materials, so I opened the door and behold, the whole House has been engulfed in thick smoke. The palour was burning and ceiling on fire and we raised serious alarm to attract people around for rescue” the priest explained.
Speaking further the parish priest said there was no other rout to escape except the palour which already has been filled with thick smoke and fire. The priest finally escaped through the palour and those who were around the parish House as that time thanked God for saving the lives of the priests.
It was suspected that what caused the fire break was the power surge because when the priests went to bed at 11 pm as we gathered there was no electric power and when power returned around 12.30 in the morning, it came with force and eventually led to the spark. Holy Trinity parish despite what happened participated in the last Fridays cathedraticium and palm Sunday procession. While at the church on Sunday, it was celebration and jubilation to thank God for saving the lived of the three Rev Fathers.
