Resolved to empower youths and women across Imo State, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha will next week hold a three-day intensive training programme for 700 candidates selected from the 305 wards in the state on micro-agricultural extension programmes.
The training which commences on Thursday at Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education Owerri is organized in collaboration with the National Roots Crops Institute in Umudike, Abia State.
This is the first time an empowerment programme of this great scale and realistic in nature is being organized in the state; targeting the most vulnerable groups.
The programme is designed to offer the beneficiaries an opportunity to be trained in micro agricultural enterprises. The major aim is to boost food crop production in the state; creation of wealth and employment opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths.
Participants would at the end of the programme be provided with seedlings, some other basic materials and stipends to put the programme into practice in their various communities. Effective monitoring arrangement would also be put in place to ensure enhanced success.
