Justice Okoye , the Executive Chairman of Internal Revenue Service ,IIRS has described the recruitment process of the newly recruited Taxmen in Imo State as an unprecedented exercise that provides opportunity for a son of a nobody to become somebody without knowing anybody .
Speaking during the 2020 induction ceremony held at Ahiajoku Centre, Owerri, the Chairman of the revenue house vowed never to disappoint the governor and the people of the state, adding that all the IIRS taxmen were all recruited solely on merit.
Explaining further, Justice Okoye ,who expressed how elated he was to welcome all to the 2020 Imo State Internal Revenue Service Induction Ceremony said the way the process was managed would always reflect on the image of the service, confidence and attitude of taxmen to duty and in particular the response of taxpayers to their civic responsibility.
According to him, “today Imo citizens are happy and proud to have tapped into the opportunity of attracting and appointing highly skilled staff that will assist to collect and account for the entire internally generated revenue of Imo State Government.”
He said personally, I am honoured and privileged to be carrying out this function on behalf of the state Government.
“To be frank, it would have been an extremely uphill task to reach this take off point without the encouragement, political will, constant guidance and advice of H.E Senator Hope Uzodinma’s (Onwa Oyoko).”
The soft spoken IIRS boss said the narrative has changed. He advised the newly inducted personnel of IIRS that the task before them are enormous, assuring that  together they shall provide practical steps to assist individuals , organizations and their society at large .
Also speaking, Senator Hope Uzodimma charged them to be diligent while discharging their duties and go about their business.
He said “Be loyal and patriotic to the system, without any fear of molestation. Your job will speak for you. It is your performance that will bring you promotion, increase your salary and introduce new allowances for you. One thing I assure you is that if you do your own, I will do my own.”
Uzodinma who was full of praises for the Executive Chairman of the service Justice Okoye narrated how he went to the Federal Inland Revenue Service and pleaded with the leadership to send him and some of his team members to come and work for Imo State.
The governor commended them for accepting to come down from Abuja to do a lesser paying job in Imo State.
