KIDNAPPERS INVADE OWERRI WEST.
–Whisks away two victims from a community.
By Peter Uzoma.
The developmental trend sweeping across Ndegwu autonomous Community in Owerri West has made Umuezu Ndegwu a mini business area and centre of attraction.
Last Wednesday, the day’s business had gone on well till around 8pm when a perceived man made climatic change took place.
Suddenly, gunshots which caused a chaotic stampede sent customers who had strolled out for evening purchases scampering for their lives.
When it seemed clear that a little normalcy had returned, people started coming out from their hideouts only to discover that two shops owners had disappeared into a nearby bush.
One of the kidnapped victims simply described as Ejima, an okada rider, from Umuomara Ndegwu, was said to had closed his day’s business and came to pick his wife, who owns a store at the market place. The other victim who could not be identified as at the time of filing this report is a female.
An eyewitness who spoke on condition of anonymity said, “we are surprised at this commando style of kidnapping and we have not seen this type before”.
The kidnappers who had come on foot, picked the two victims and disappeared into a nearby bush unchallenged.
Meanwhile, palpable fear has engulfed the entire Ndegwu as contacts were yet to be established with the kidnappers.
All attempts to reach the Police failed as calls put across did not go through.
