CREATION OF ADDITIONAL STATE IN THE SOUTH EAST; TO BE OR NOT TO BE.
The Creation of an Additional State in the South East Zone of the country has been long overdue. It has re-echoed severally in various fora in and outside the country. Generally, every living Being and Dead had/have always seen it as a great disservice to the people of the zone in all facets of human, social, political and economic/ Infrastructural development. Unfortunately, the heartless so called leaders in the country have in their unreasonable and infantile believe decided to turn deaf and blind ears / eyes to the demand of fairness, justice and equality. That the National Assembly Committee has Approved the Creation of the Additional State is a cheering news if they and Masters have risen to their divine and not demonic senses. On the other hand, the Nation’s Leaders should not take the entire blame. We should also blame some greedy people who have/had governed South East States for their selfless interests and greed.
This is NOT the first time the Creation of an Additional State for the South East was Approved. It was Approved during OBASANJO era. It was Approved during Jonathan era. The major Challenge or Obstacle that hindered its Creation during Obasanjo era was GREED. During the said period,it was agreed that the new State will be from Imo State and parts of Anambra State. The Late Senator Arthur Nzeribe in his wisdom posited that in Imo State, Ohaji/ Egbema SHOULD BE IN IMO STATE while Oguta SHOULD BE IN ORASHI or ORLU STATE. His argument was that both IMO and ORASHI or ORLU STATE will be Oil Producing States. But the Governor then refused and insisted that ORLU STATE will have Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta in ORLU STATE. He even never wanted to hear ORASHI STATE. During the period,it was agreed that AGWA CLAN and IZOMBE should be in Imo State.It was this position of the then Governor that scuttled the entire process. Thereafter, ETITI STATE,ABA STATE and ANIM STATE emerged .
If the Creation will hold, the best thing is to AGREE with Late Senator Arthur Nzeribe’s PROPOSAL so that after taking care of this, the New States to be Created along with other States across the Federation will then take care of ABA And other PROPOSALS. Unless we start somewhere, the Creation of ADDITIONAL STATE in the South East will be a MIRAGE.
