Ngor Okpala journalists elect first substantive executive

Practising journalists from Ngor Okpala LGA of Imo State, under the aegis of Ngor Okpala Media Advisory Council, NOMAC, have elected their first substantive executive committee, with Comrade Athan Agbakwuru as the Chairman.
The election which was conducted last Friday by the George Onyejiuwa-led Electoral Committee also saw the emergence of Comrades Austin Echereozor of Star Post Express Newspaper and Henry Amadi, Editor of the Christian Light Newspaper as Vice Chairman and Secretary respectively.
Agbakwuru carried the day with six(6) votes out of the total of 16 votes cast while Sir Sunny Ndukwu, publisher of Eastern Front tabloid and Comrade Chinedu Opara, Editor of Newspoint polled five(5) votes each.
Following the outcome of the exercise, Athan Agbakwuru was immediately sworn in to take over from the interim administration led by Sir Sunny Ndukwu, assisted by Comrade Angela Nkwo-Akpolu of the Leadership Newspaper.
The newly elected chairman, Comrade Athan Agbakwuru who hails from Umuchoko, Ojiwe Village of Umuohiagu Autonomous Community, Ngor Okpala LGA, Imo State is a Post Graduate of the International Institute of Journalism, IIJ, Abuja.
He also holds a Bachelor of Science, BSc, in Government(Political Science) and Public Administration of Imo State University, IMSU, Owerri and the current
Correspondent of Nigerian Pilot Newspaper since 2011.
Agbakwuru is Chairman, Acting Chairman, two-term Secretary and Assistant Secretary emeritus of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ and member, Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN.
With professional/work experience spanning over two decades and still counting, Agbakwuru had served in notable national dailies as well as a respectful community leader, public affairs analyst, quintessential writer and eloquent social crusader.
In his acceptance speech on behalf of the new executive, Agbakwuru pledged to restore the vision of the group and reposition NOMAC for greater service to the people of Ngor Okpala.
