NUJ IMO STATE COUNCIL WASHES HANDS OFF AIBJ

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Council, has washed its hands off a group that calls itself “Association of Imo State-Based Journalists” (AIBJ).
A release to this effect which was signed by the NUJ Imo State Council Chairman, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma, the Imo NUJ informed the general public that the said group is neither recognized, registered nor affiliated to it.
The release read in part, “for the avoidance of doubt, recognized affiliates and professional bodies within the NUJ structure include the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Nigeria Guild of Editors (NGE), and Correspondents’ Chapel, among others recognized in accordance with the Union’s established structure”.
It further added, “consequently, the NUJ Imo State Council shall not be held responsible for any transactions, representations, financial dealings, loss or other consequences arising from dealings with this group or persons purporting to represent it”.
It then warned all registered and practising members of the NUJ, Imo State Council, to disassociate themselves from the activities of these impostors adding that any member found acting in violation of this directive may face severe disciplinary actions according to the Constitution and regulations of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
The NUJ Imo State Council then urged the public to be wary and disregard any claims by the group or any representatives claiming to be recognized or affiliated with the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Imo State Council.
