CHIKE OKAFOR LEADS APC CAMPAIGN IN OBOWO, PLEDGES AT LEAST 40,000 VOTES FOR TINUBU, NDUBUEZE, OKEKE

Urges Obowo to reciprocate Governor Uzodimma’s good governance with massive votes

Rt. Hon. Dr. Chike John Okafor, three-term member of the House of Representatives for Okigwe South Federal Constituency (Ehime Mbano, Obowo and Ihitte-Uboma) and Chairman of the House Committee on Nutrition and Food Security, has pledged to deploy all his resources, together with other key stakeholders, to deliver Obowo LGA for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Patrick Ndubueze, House of Representatives candidate Rt. Hon. Surveyor Jonas Okeke and State Assembly candidate Prince Humphrey Okeke in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Saturday, October 17, 2026, during the APC campaign outing in Obowo, he said the LGA’s status as a core APC enclave made it possible to go beyond mobilisation and return not less than 40,000 votes for the party.

Condolence visit

Earlier in the day, Okafor led the campaign delegation to the country home of the late second-republic Governor of Imo State, Chief Sam Mbakwe, to condole with his widow, Lady Victoria Ahuikpeghe Mbakwe, over the death of their first son, Chief Alex Mbakwe. Okafor said the visit would ordinarily have been to seek blessings for the candidates at the late governor’s graveside, but became one of sympathy. He praised Alex Mbakwe for upholding the family name and representing his father positively.

Royal blessing

At the palace of Eze (Dr.) Patrick Ngozi Uwalaka, traditional ruler of Umulogho and Chairman of the Obowo Council of Traditional Rulers, Okafor sought royal support for the APC candidates. He said he was leading the campaign for his successor, Okeke, because the party’s decision to zone the ticket to Ihitte-Uboma was just, given that Ehime Mbano and Obowo have had their turns. He described Okeke as tested and trusted, citing his service as Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly (2007-2011) and his brief earlier stint in the House of Representatives, and called his own role in the campaign a restitution for past injustice against Ihitte-Uboma.

Okafor asked the traditional rulers to support the APC for continuity and completion of ongoing projects, including Operation Light Up Obowo, market projects and rural infrastructure, which he said Okeke had pledged to sustain.

Community leaders

At Umulogho Primary School, Okafor met the President Generals, women leaders and youth leaders of the autonomous communities. He stressed the role of community leaders in grassroots mobilisation and urged them to reciprocate Governor Hope Uzodimma’s development strides with votes for Tinubu, Ndubueze, Okeke and Humphrey Okeke.

Inauguration at Otoko

At the Obowo council headquarters in Otoko, the campaign inaugurated the Directors and Coordinators of the Jonas Okeke Campaign Organisation, Obowo LGA chapter. Okafor charged party members to consolidate the APC’s hold on the area and deliver not less than 40,000 votes at all levels. He noted that Obowo’s political class is now united, with leaders such as Chief Okewulonu and Longers Anyanwu joining the APC, adding: “Obowo is APC and APC is Obowo.”

Okeke pledged to continue Okafor’s projects and promised annual constituency briefings, consultations with stakeholders, and Christmas and Easter outreaches. He also promised to work with community leaders to seek government intervention on road reconstruction and other infrastructure.

Rt. Hon. Kennedy Ibeh, former Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly and Director General of the Okeke campaign; APC LGA Chairman Chief Tony Osuagwu; Hon. Princess Nkechi Anyanwu-Mbachu; and Hon. Udochukwu Nwagwu all pledged to deliver all APC candidates. The traditional rulers and community leaders likewise promised their support, having been assured that ongoing projects will continue.

The day ended at Okafor’s country home in Umuokeh, where guests were hosted to a meal.
