The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Imo State chapter, has continued to wallow in crisis and confusion as its state congress where new officers to pilot the affairs of the party in the state were elected ended in a fiasco.
The party has not remained the same since Governor Rochas Okorocha quit its fold and pitched his political tenth with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Okorocha went further to describe the party as a cultural organization. With the Governor’s exit, the remnants of the party in the state have fallen on the shoulders of other APGA chieftains and leaders, who last week, took a step forward to re-organize the party.
At De Legend Hotel Owerri, the party’s congress threw up Dr Emeka Ukegbu, Chairman, from Owerri Zone, Chief Austin Ibeh, and Secretary, from Okigwe Zone, and Cletus Elendu, Treasurer, Orlu Zone.
Speaking to Journalists shortly after the congress, the former Interim State Chairman of APGA, Owerri Chapter, Chief Tony Mgbeahuruike, said that the party’s election was successful as leaders have emerged. “APGA has been re-incubated” he stated.
However, the INEC Public Relations Officer, Imo State, Mr Onyeji Chinedu, who monitored the congress, regretted that there was no election held at the congress.
The Congress was thrown into commotion as aggrieved majority members insisted on conducting physical and free election rather than selection which is contrary to the party’s constitution.
One of those members who was said to be a faction leader of APGA, Mr Udo Agoha regretted that no election was duly conducted, stressing that “anything that will bring friction and faction in the party should be avoided. Say no to imposition of leaders. We are here to make sure that the party moves forward” he concluded.
Trumpeta observed, the Congress which was earlier scheduled to take place at Owerri Hotels Plaza could not hold there as scheduled, as some external forces were instrumental to the change of the venue.
