The Special Adviser to Governor Rochas Okorocha on Diaspora, USA, Barr. Francis Ononaji has said that the Governor has vowed to make Imo a health tourist state for people living within and outside Nigeria. Barr Ononaji said this in Owerri while receiving Korean and American investors that came to invest in the health sector in the state. He admitted that the town hall meeting Governor Okorocha had with Imolites in U.S.A to come home and invest in the state, has started yielding fruits. He called on the investors to help provide free medical services and help encourage health tourism in the state.
In his Contribution, the Mayor Owerri Zone, Dr. Kachi Nwoga said that Governor Okorocha wants to make Imo State a health tourist home by building more than 27 hospitals and that Imo is one of the states that have the highest number of medical doctors in diaspora. The mayorial leader reaffirmed that Imo State Government is commited in providing enough land for foreign investors but weeped that most investors end up being road contractors.
In the same vein, The president of Owerri Chamber of Commerce, Barr Kelvin Mbawuike said that the private sector in Imo State is not given adequate encouragement to be able to operate their business, generate employment and pay their taxes. He advised that there must be a synergy between the government and private sectors, lamenting that the refusal of Imo State Government to pay for counterpart funds in accessing loans from the bank of industries has robbed them of many progress.
