Construction magnate and frontline politician in Imo state, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, has reacted fiercly to allegations that he abandoned construction work on Orji – Egbu – Naze – Nekede – Ihiagwa – Obinze road.
Iwuanyanwu, in a statement issued by his construction firm, Hardel & Enic Group of Companies, described those who bandied such allegations against him as detractors who are bent on destroying and tarnishing his integrity.
The statement signed by Bon Nwachukwu, Managing Director of the Firm, blamed former Governor Achike Udenwa for the present condition of the road, arguing that Udenwa terminated the contract because he had a political misunderstanding with Chief Iwuanyanwu.
The statement reads in part “He (Udenwa) also in like manner, revoked a street named after our Chairman in New Owerri. We went to court to challenge these two actions and by the grace of God, we won the two cases and we were vindicated”.
The firm noted that it made clear to the court that “we were not interested in continuing with the contract since it has been already been re-awarded, rather we claimed payment for all outstanding money owed to our company before the unlawful termination of the contract”.
He urged all well meaning citizens of Imo state to appeal to the Imo state government to force the contractors handling the road contract to resume work or can re-award it to any other contractor who could complete it.
