A group of grassroot politicians in Imo State under the aegis of “Imo Grassroots Association” has thrown its weight on the controversial local government autonomy, saying that it will strengthen the dividends of democracy at the grassroot.
An impeccable source close to the newly formed association of the former Local Government Chairmen and their members, sole administrators, local government secretaries, supervisors and supervisory councilors insisted that granting the local governments autonomy will further put a check to the recklessness of some state governors.
The association which has Chief Rex Anunobi and Chief Alan B. Onyemaechi as its Chairman and Director of Publicity is also said to be out to promote good governance within the polity.
Though, not an affiliate of any political party, the association from available information may also involve itself in checkmating the excesses of political parties and their members in governance.
Information available to Trumpeta Newspapers indicates that the group will address a Press Conference on Friday at the NUJ Press Centre Owerri, where they will further disclose this mission and operations.
