The sacking spree gaining prominence in various government establishments inImoStatehas berthed at the Millennium Development Goals, MDG, office Owerri, as the state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has directed mass sack of the workforce.
In a move that surprised most of the workers who are two months arrears of salaries and other entitlements, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor in MDG, Dr Mrs. Chukwukere few days ago informed the workers that the state government has relieved about 40 persons their jobs.
The enraged workers who could not stomach the unexpected sack were said to have refused leaving office forcing the Governor’s aide to allegedly lock them inside and left the office with the key. Reason prevailed before she agreed to open the office to free the sacked workers.
Imo Weekend Trumpeta learnt that uneasy calm and tension pervades the MDG office complex located on Portharcourt Road Owerri, opposite the House of Assembly junction. The workers who consists of new staff recruited by the former SSA on MDG to the Governor, and now Commissioner for Housing, Prince Charles Onuoha are threatening fire and brimstone if the exercise is fully implemented. Efforts to speak to the SSA, Dr Chukwukere failed as her phone was not available.
