Member representing Ohaji/Egbema, Oguta and Oru West Federal Constituency, Rt Hon Goodluck Nanah Opiah has expressed readiness to continue to use avenue of sports for empowerment of youths in his area.
Speaking at the finals of the Abacheke Tow Education Cup Competition, for villages in the locality, Opiah who also has APC ticket to return to the National Assembly, noted that he has done much for youths in the federal constituency and is willing to do more if given a fresh mandate.
According to the lawmaker who has been sponsoring the competition known as Opiah cup, for several years, “ I feel sports is not only a recreational activity but also an avenue to engage youths in meaningful activities, other than vices that do not impact in their lives.
“Remember I personally undertook the renovation of this Abacheke field and fields of other areas like the neigbouring Mmahu. I did it to create an avenue for our youths to develop and display their talents to catch the fancy of scouts”
According to Opiah, “getting involved in sporting activities is better than criminal acts. I promise to continue the support to grassroots sports event”
In the final match that saw the presence of notable dignitaries include the Vice Chairman of YSFON, Ndubuisi Opara, National Publicity Secretary of Nigeria Referees Association NRA, Sir Kelechi Mejuobi, and Dr (Mrs)Nina Nwulu.
Ogboru Village defeated their Ogbedeyi village 2-1 to lift the cup.
