A devastating fire outbreak has razed down Orie Akokwa market, in Ideato North LGA of Imo state destroying goods running into millions of naira.
When our reporter visited the scene, it was a pathetic sight as traders were seen crying openly as most of them claimed that the inferno consumed their life – wires.
It has remained a mystery how the fire started, but sources told Imo Trumpeta that it may have been caused by an electric spark somewhere in the market.
Most of the traders could not salvage anything as the fire started when the market had closed for the day’s business.
Speaking to reporters, Chairman of the Market traders association Mr Emmanuel Enwerem expressed shock and disappointment over the inferno, regretting that it was unfortunate that this incident happened at this time of the year, when things are tough for everybody.
Mr Enwerem called on the Governor of Imo state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha to come to their aide.
Meanwhile, the member representing Ideator North in the Imo House of Assembly, Hon Eudora Igwe has visited the scene of the incident, where she sympathised with the Traders and advised them to be cautious with inflammable materials to avoid a reoccurrence of such ugly situation.
