Yesterday Wednesday luck ran out on five men as they were caught at Amucha Timber Park, in Njaba Local Government Area Imo State, on illegal Collection of Revenue.
The men Charles Ugochukwu, Chinedu Chifo, Chukwudi Olumba, Benjamin Uka and Daniel Duru were arrested by the Imo Internal Revenue Service Officials on patrol exercise led by Head of Informal Sector, Mr Obinna Duruaku.
However while under interrogation by Journalists, the men said they were working under directive to be collecting levy from Tipper Drivers.
The men who wore Apparels bearing the inscription “IIRS” of the Imo State Internal Revenue Service said that they were not on illegal duty as they operated under a Boss.
Speaking to Trumpeta, IIRS Head of Informal Sector, Obinna Duruaku said that the men arrested by his team were selling fake tickets to motorists, which he said is an offence, adding that they would be handed over to police for further investigation.
Speaking onbehalf of his fellow suspects, Mr Chukwudi Olumba who said he hails from Orlu LGA maintained that they were not on illegal duty, pointing out that the Apparel they wore were given to them by their Boss.
They pleaded that they should be allowed to go, adding that they are not criminals.
About the fake tickets found in their possession, Chukwudi Olumba said it was not found on them, but inside the vehicle they use for their operations
