Engr Desmond Nwanna Ugwudi is dead. According to the family, he died after a brief illness and would be buried on May 26, 2012, in his home town, Nnorie, in Ngor Okpala Local Government Area.
Before his death, Engr Ugwu was a top member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which he was the Chairman of Ngor Okpala Local Government Area for so many years.
Engr Uwgudi, called “Sue” by his admirers, for his penchant in seeking redress in the court of law, is an illustrious son of Ngor Okpala, loved by his people because of his vibrant nature and never- say- die spirit.
Meanwhile, his death has been described by many Imo top politicians as shocking. Speaking during a condolence visit to the family by Ngor Okpala PDP, the Chairman, Chief CC Nwigwe described Ugwudi as a leader and one of the pillars of the party in the Area, and said Ngor Okpala will miss him.
On the entourage of Ngor Okpala PDP were Chief Blyden Amajirionwu, State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Hon Bede Eke, Immediate past member of IMHA representing Ngor Okpala and Hon Emma Nwogu, Former Chairman of Ngor Okpala LGA,
Chief Nwigwe said Ngor Okpala PDP has set up a burial Committee to give the late Ugwudi a befitting burial. The Committee is headed by Hon Bede Eke.
Meanwhile, a former Governorship Aspirant in the State, Bar Humphrey Anumudu has described the death of Engr Desmond Ugwudi as a big blow to not only the PDP but the entire State.
He said Engr Ugwudi is a strict man, who does not play politics of the stomach, but a focused and serious minded politician. He urged the family to bear the loss.
The Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Hon Emeka Ihedioha has also urged the PDP and the family of late Engr Ugwudi to take heart over the death of a man he described as a fighter.
Speaking to Imo Trumpeta on phone, Hon Ihedioha said Engr Ugwudi died when his fatherly advice was most needed in the PDP, adding that he has left behind a big vacuum in Ngor Okpala PDP, praying that God will give the family the strength to bear the loss.
“PDP has lost a vibrant politician. He was a fighter, a leader of repute and role model who was Chairman of Ngor Okpala PDP for many years without blemish, May his soul rest in peace” Ihedioha said.
