2027 : Only the best can succeed Uzodimma – Regy Amadi

The atmosphere was serene. The environment, enchanting. The focus was an interactive session between Dr. Reginald Uchenna Amadi – the leading governorship aspirant in Imo State under the All Progressives Congress (APC ) and a delegation of media practitioners from Owerri Senatorial Zone at the weekend.

Ezeogba, Emekuku in Owerri North Local Government Area – the country home of Dr. Amadi was the venue.

The delegation, led by its Chairman, Chief Everest Ezihe, comprised prominent media practitioners of note.

Speaking during the interactive session, Ezihe appreciated Dr. Amadi for being media friendly and parleying with members of the fourth estate of the realm. He noted that Owerri Zone had produced frontline journalists who have remained committed to the growth and development of society.

He stated that the media practitioners were interested in the political developments in Imo State and would support any administration capable of delivering good governance after the tenure of the incumbent governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma. Ezihe further disclosed that Owerri Zone was keenly interested in what would play out in the 2027 governorship contest, positing that the group was considering convening a town hall meeting that would bring together governorship aspirants from Owerri zone, irrespective of their political linenings

According to him, the proposed meeting would provide an opportunity for aspirants to present their programmes, explain their intentions, and openly discuss their vision for Imo State.He that said such an engagement would enable the people to assess the vision, administrative and leadership competence of the various aspirants and help stakeholders make informed decisions. He stressed that the ultimate objective was to ensure that Owerri presented its best for the governorship debacle so that the opportunity would not elude zone in 2027.

Also speaking, Chief Kennedy Eweama,an astute Media Consultant, described Dr. Amadi as a familiar name in Imo and commended his public record.

Eweama thanked the aspirant for providing an opportunity for the media practitioners to interact with him, noting that the gesture demonstrated his appreciation of the role of the press in society. “You have started well, and I am sure you will finish well. Be rest assured of our support,” he said.

Other members of the delegation who spoke, including Chief Christopher Akaraonye, Mr Patrick Mgbaja, Mr Austin Echereozo, Mrs Ngozi Ejimadu and Ven. Innocent Osuoha echoed similar sentiments and pointed out that the association would continue to engage with stakeholders as the political process unfolds.

They expressed their views on Dr Amadi’s aspiration and said they would support his ambition based on their assessment of his personality, experience, and vision for the state.

Responding, Dr Reginald Amadi acknowledged the importance of the media in shaping public discourse and promoting accountability, describing the press as an important partner in any effort to transform society.He said his interest in the 2027 governorship race was not driven by a desire for power, money, or fame, but by what he described as a desire to contribute to changing the narrative in Imo State.

“I have seen people suffer and die from hunger, starvation and carelessness, and in the process of listening to them, I have come to realise that we have more problems in our society than we know.

No jobs, insecurity, and roads that are not in good shape still traumatise our people. We need to change the narrative of bad leadership. I am coming for a rescue. I am in dire need of changing the system,” he asserted.

In his words: “Join me. Support this move to say enough is enough. Propagate it. We have had enough,and together, we can effect the positive turnaround that we all desire,” he said.

Amadi further described the 2027 election as consequential, stressing that the quality of leadership that emerges would have implications for the state in the years ahead.He, however, said that if another person emerged whom God had chosen and the person did well in office, he would have no reason to be worried.

The governorship aspirant also welcomed the proposed town hall meeting, expressing his readiness to engage with other aspirants and members of the public on their respective vision for Imo State.”

“I welcome the idea of all governorship aspirants coming together to brainstorm and showcase their respective blueprints for a greater Imo of our dreams. We need to be assessed by Imo people so that only the best can succeed our governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma. Anything less would be unacceptable to Imo people,” Dr. Amadi reiterated.
