Youths numbering over 40 from Amadim-Umuezihe in Amaifeke took to a street protest to the Eze’s Palace in complain for the extortion and embezzlement by the electricity committee chairman, Chief Augustine Nwogu.
Narrating their ordeals to Trumpeta at the scene of the protest, the youth chairman and General Chairman of the youths in Amadim-Umuezihe, Prince Smart Uragbadike stated that what prompted the protest by the youths was to fight corruption, injustice, intimidation and extortion from the community by the electricity committee chairman who has been into the position for the past four years without rendering a transparent account for the community. Prince Smart enumerated that right from the scratch, it was the paramount responsibility of the youths to appoint and dissolve any incumbent administration found whirl-world and engrossed with all administrative vices like embezzlement and other related issues, stressing that they had earlier notified their monarch, Eze Cyril Okechukwu Ihemegwo of their plans to dissolve the administration which he gave consent to go ahead with their plans to restructure and revolutionalize the Amaifeke clan.
Speaking further, Prince Smart disclosed that after the kings declaration to dissolve the committee executives which Mr Augustine was among turned back to reverse his statement. Regrettably, he commented that other communities were levied to pay N400 and N500 respectively whereas Mr Augustine collected N1000 from them which they termed “Palace conspiracy and business enshrined”. However, he urged the Eze to stop threatening their positions and lives and should respond to their humble plights, or they will be left with no option than to embark on massive rioting.
When contacted, the monarch of Isiala Amaifeke, HRH Eze C.O Ihemegwo stated that he was not aware of all they said and should settle their disputes amicable without mentioning his name. Eze Ihemegwo further denied giving his consent to the said dissolution and enjoined them to criticize wisely.
Among the inscriptions on the placards were; the Govt at Federal, state and LGA are fighting against corruption, Eze why are you supporting corruption in your community and Isiala Amaifeke, Eze C.O Ihemegwo, anarchy is looming in your kingdom, watch it, your highness, stop protecting a corrupt man among others.
