The seeming disagreement between the Imo State Government and the police command in the State over the position of the latter in the case of the elected chairmen is taking a dangerous dimension as policemen attached to elected and appointed government officials have been withdrawn.

According to Imo Trumpeta findings, the State Government attracted the wrath of the police hierarchy in the State by launching verbal attacks on police and making certain uncomplimentary remarks over the uniformed men’s volteface on the issue of allowing the elected chairmen gain access into the councils after the Appeal court Judgement nullifying the action of the Governor.  The police as part of their responsibilities had at the wake of theAppeal Court order taken position as well protect lives and property.

The police in the State however shifted ground on Monday when a supposed directive fromAbujasignalled them to allow the democratically elected chairmen access into the councils to respect the court Judgement.

Irked by the police role, the State government picked the gauntlet and engaged in vituperative attacks against the security agency.

The police in a recent directive withdrew their personnel attached to certain political appointees including commissioners, TC Chairmen and other aides.

The police in the state were reported to have informed the appointees that only those with clearance and permission from the Inspector General of the Police, IGP, after application will be entitled to police orderly.
