Dame Emily Ahunna Obiyo Memorial Cup Draw Holds Today …
Competition Proper kicks-off Match 15

All roads will today lead to Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, venue for the draw ceremony of the fixtures for the maiden edition of Dame Emily Ahunna Obiyo Memorial Football Competition for the 9 Local Government Areas in Owerri zone.
The draw which is being packaged by Samuel-Mary/Dame Emily Obiyo Foundation and airtel in conjunction with YSFON will take place inside the Imo State FA House in Dan Anyiam by 2pm as the 9 LGA teams will be drawn into three groups with three teams each.
According to release by the Local Organizing Committee of the championship, three centers have been designated as venues for the group games namely, Iho Township Stadium (Ikeduru), Chioma Ajunwa Stadium (Ahiazu-Mbaise) and the Old Township Stadium along Tetlow road, Owerri.
It further revealed that the winner of the competition will take home a mouthwatering sum of N500, 000 while the runners-up and the 1st runners-up gets N300, 000 and N200, 000 respectively with other teams assured of N50, 000 each as consolation prize.
The highlight of the event according to a source close to the son of Dame Emily, Chief Dr Uzoma Obiyo (KSC), all the participating teams will receive match jerseys and football boots to enable them look smart and neat during the tournament.
The competition is however powered by multinational companies such as Multi-net, MTN, Bill Network System, Samanny Infotech Services, Multi-net System and Airtel.

Amokachi Prays World Cup Kits Bring More Glory
African champions Nigeria will hope for more glory wearing their new World Cup kits, according to assistant coach Daniel Amokachi
On Thursday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) unveiled the kits to be worn by the Eagles at Brazil 2014.
The home kit is in two refreshingly different shades of green from the current jersey, while the away kit is white with trimmings of green and red numbering
“Our prayer is that the successes we have enjoyed so far continue with this new kit,” Amokachi stated at the public presentation of the World Cup jersey in Abuja on Thursday.
“The jersey reminds us of the playing days of my boss “The Big Boss” in the 80’s.
“It has the shade of green they used back then and a touch of the green we used in Atlanta 96.”
CHAN MVP Ejike Uzoenyi was one of the first Eagles stars to model the new kits on Thursday.”The jersey is great. It feels light on the skin and it’s top quality,” he praised.
“I like its texture and cannot wait to wear it for action next week.”
The Eagles will on Wednesday in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States of America launch the jersey in a World Cup warm-up against Mexico.

Obulimba Unity Cup Enters Knock-out Stage
The 2014 edition of the annual Hon Innocent Obulimba Ekeh Owerri-West Unity Football Competition will today Friday February 28 enter its knock-out stage (Round-of 12 games).
According to a release made available to Trumpeta sports desk by the Local Organizing Committee, this stage will see 12 teams that qualified from their group’s lock-horns against each other for a place in the quarter-final round.
The championship which is in its 3rd edition is designed to fish out footballing talents as well as help cub social vices and is competed for by all the autonomous communities in Owerri-West Local Government Area powered by Hon Obulimba , member representing Owerri-West State constituency at the Imo House of Assembly.
The release signed by the LOC chairman, Mr Nlekerem indicates that the defending champion Irete will in one of the three games today take on Ndegwe at the Police Training School field. Also today, Umuanunu who are debuting in the competition will at the Umuguma center square up against Eziobodo for a place in the quarter-final while Umudibia faces Emeabiam in the last game of the day at Orogwe.
On Saturday March 1, the contest continues as Ohii will be up against Obinze (2012 Champions) at PTS ground, Orogwe will attempt to do better this season when the come-up against Umualum at the Umuguma center in one of the toughest game of the championship while Ofurola in the last game tackles Amakohia-Ubi at the Orogwe center for a place in the last four.
