The demonstration carried out by staff of the Imo Broadcasting Corporation Owerri Tuesday this week, over their unpaid salary arrears is beginning to yield results as the state government has set up a panel of inquiry to look into some of the complains made by the workers.
Some of the terms of reference for the panel include to find out why the workers should carry out the protest in the first place, cause of delay in salary payment and what has been happening to the co-orporations IGR.
A Government House source told Trumpeta that Governor Rochas Okorocha was not comfortable with the demonstration by the workers pointing out that if nothing else the corporation should have been able to pay to itself a month’s salary.
The source disclosed that the governor vowed to deal with anybody who was in the habit of hoarding the workers salaries adding that it was because of the premium he placed on IBC Owerri that made him increase the corporations subvention from seventeen point five million naira to twenty five million naira.
Trumpeta understands that the committee was also asked to make recommendations on the way forward for the corporation.
Feelers from Staff of the Corporation say the workers are no more comfortable with the entire management of the outfit. Some are even calling for the dissolution of the management team since it could no longer manage its resources.
The staff called on the Governor to purge IBC Owerri the way he dealt with the Imo State University and where possible put in place an entire new management team to run the affairs of the place.
