Poor allocation to the states has raised serious concern to Imo Rescue Mission Administration.
Against this backdrop, the three arms of government in Imo comprising Legislature, Executive and Judiciary have agreed to reduce expenditure and improve internally generated revenue (IGR) without delay.
Briefing newsmen at Imo Government House Owerri yesterday, the Speaker Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Acho Ihim, hinted that new reforms have been mapped out as agreed by the 3 organs of Government as a solution to the current economic crises which came as a result of global Economic meltdown in which Imo State according to him is the worst hit.
In the new reform according to information, government has resolved to set up a special mobile court that will move round the 27 local government areas to try offenders and punish them accordingly.
The government went ahead to announce that each autonomous community in Imo state must raise up to 3000 tax payers as any community that is not able to do so will be scraped out as a recognized autonomous community in the state .
It was also disclosed that the state government is making serious moves to decongest the prison.
Some heavy-weight politicians who spoke to our reporter at Imo Government House on the new development said it is a civic responsibility of every adult citizen of the state to pay tax as at when due.
Meanwhile youths of the state have vowed to resist any attempt to force them to pay tax. A cross session of women and youths comprising graduates and low income earners on Monday complained that the government is imposing a lot of hardship on them.
