Except for God’s intervention or the Imo state government changes approach, Okorocha’s Model City School located along Wetheral road Owerri may fall victim of WAEC non recognition to host its examinations. The school may miss West African Examination Council Exams coming up soon following absence of necessary facilities for such exercises.
A visit to the school revealed that there is no Science Laboratory, Library and other Basic Education facilities inevitable in hosting WAEC examinations.
Recently a youth Corper who noticed that there were no black boards for teaching the students rescued the school and donated black boards to all the classes. Further investigation revealed that the contractor that handled the school project could not make provision for Basic facilities in the school.
Even the football field, according to our source was wrongly cited and as a result the pitch is always filled with water any time there is rain fall.
The school children and their teachers are always in difficulty whenever it is raining. Some times they climb the school fence to enter their class rooms.
The teachers said they have complained to the Governor on the matter and up till now nothing have been done to remedy the situation. A teacher raised alarm that WAEC may not consider proper enough to conduct its examination based on the absence of essential facilities.
Efforts to reach the headteacher was unsuccessful as the person volunteered not o comment on the matter.
