OKOROCHA APPROVES N320 MILLION INTERVENTION FUND FOR PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Anayo Okorocha has approved the sum
of N320 million Naira intervention fund for all primary and secondary
schools in the state.
Governor Okorocha, who disclosed this after a one-day workshop with
head teachers, principals and other stakeholders in the education
sector, said the fund is meant to enable the newly established
management teams of various schools to embark on maintenance projects
ahead of resumption of schools.
He explained that each primary and secondary school in the state will
get N200, 000 as part of the measures towards implementing school
autonomy in the state.
Governor Okorocha, who lamented on the infrastructural decay in public
schools, disclosed that his administration will under the free
education programme establish management teams that will oversee the
affairs of the schools towards addressing the bureaucratic bottle-neck
that has contributed to the collapse of infrastructure in the public
schools.
He challenged the head teachers and principals to embrace the
challenges occasioned by the renewed commitment of the state
government to promote a quality free and compulsory education in Imo
State.
Governor Okorocha added that about 80 containers loaded with school
materials including sandals, books, desks and uniforms have arrived
the state which will be distributed freely to pupils and students as
part of the free education programme of his administration.
In a recent development, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has described
physical exercise as a panacea for a healthy living.
The governor stated this at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri during his Walk
for Life Exercise over the weekend.
Governor Okorocha posited that exercise is of the spiritual and
physical which he maintained is important to human existence adding
that when both are carried out, the entire body system will be
properly serviced.
He advised Imolites to embark on walk-out on weekly basis to avert
avoidable sickness and to make sure that the blood circulates well in
the system for a healthy and longer living.
