As part of its continued efforts to rid the state of criminal elements, the Imo State Police Command has arrested a couple who conspired and sold their four months old baby for N400,000 and two other children.

The suspects, Ugochukwu Nwachukwu 28yrs “M” from Umueme Obike Ngor L.G.A and Glory Nwachukwu 30yrs “F” from Isiala Ngwa LGA of Abia State, apart from trafficking their son, also conspired and lured one Jovita Aloka “F” of Irete in Owerri West, to Naze, where they tactically disposed her of her two children, Adaugo Oliver, three years and six months, Daniel Oliver, six months, which they sold to yet to be identified persons.

Parading the couple and other suspects, the state Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galandachi frowned at the actions of the couple which he said was despicable. He who informed that the suspects were arrested at Umuokai, Owerre Nta in Isiala Ngwa South LGA said, operatives were trailing other fleeing members of the gang.

One of the suspects, Ugochukwu Nwachukwu who told reporters that, his share from the N400,000 bounty was N200,000 which he purchased a motorcycle with, revealed that, the action was propelled by hardship. He promised to change if given an opportunity.

Suspects have confessed to crime and other child trafficking cases within the state.

Other suspects were paraded as a result of their involvement in kidnapping, armed robbery, cultist activities/violence and fraud.

According to the release, within the last three months, 92 suspects have been paraded for various offences by the command.

In a detailed report, from May -August 2018, 33 suspects have been arrested for kidnap cases, 39 for armed robbery cases, 11 for cultism, three (3) for child trafficking, seven (7) for EEDC vandals and three (3) for fraud.

Also, 17 kidnap victims have been rescued unhurt, seven (7) stolen vehicles recovered, 30 firearms and 71 live ammunition has been recovered.

The CP who stated that community policing was yielding results, urged members of the public to always sustain the synergy between them and be ready to supply policemen with useful information.
