Members of the Imo State House of Assembly seem to be free from period of hibernation after few weeks of self isolation and quarantine arising from reports of Covid-19 infection that caged over 14 of them.
For the first time in three weeks, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Amarachi Chyna Iwuanyanwu and his Orsu state constituency counterpart, Hon. Freedoline Ekene Nnodumele made public appearance.
The lawmakers were declared unsafe by the Imo State Covid-19 taskforce when some of them reported positive of the virus after the tests, thereby forcing them to embark on compulsory recess.
While the recess lasted, plans were put in place to fumigate the Assembly complex and get it ready for the resumption of legislative activities.
However, this newspaper stood in awe to observe two of the lawmakers; Iwuanyanwu and Nnodumele make public appearance even as the Imo State Task Force on Covid 19 was yet to make official pronouncement of their status.
The presence of other dignitaries didn’t get the attraction of Trumpeta Assembly Vibes, except for the well seated lawmakers from Orlu zone.
Their presence was said to have caused a mild stir at the function in Mmahu, Egbema in Ohaji/Egbema LGA of Imo State as everyone discussed in hushed tones when spotted.
Reason for the worry written on the faces of the people present may not be unconnected to the fact that some members had been announced of being Covid 19 positive but without their identities made public.
Notice of those who may have also tested positive after treatment has not been issued to ascertain who is fit to join public gathering after isolation and necessary treatment.
Although the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chiji Collins and the House Committee Chairman on Information, Hon. Dominic Ezerioha were on air last week to address the achievements of 9th House, they didn’t dwell more on the corona virus infection as the identities of those infected and recovered were shrouded in secrecy.
It is believed that with their first appearance, it may be a clear sign that the lawmakers are fit to resume plenary any moment from now.
Apart from being sighted in that LGA, Iwuanyanwu also flagged off a water scheme for his constituency last Friday.
