The students of Federal University of Technology Owerrri who have been busy since last month, preparing for their forth coming examination will now have to add to the intensive studies the pains of having to pay extra N5,000 naira as a penalty for not paying their school fee on or before February 2012.

‘Campus gist’ gathered that these decision by the school management have not gone down well with most of the students especially those that have not been able to pay their fees till now or before the given date.

Speaking to ‘Campus gist’, one of the students who is in his third year in the institution revealed that their set will have to pay N30,000 naira instead of the originally scheduled N25,000 naira.  He also added that the first year students he under stands will now pay the sum of N47, 000 naira as against the original N42, 000 naira.

He however revealed that, though the fees may vary due to levels and studies, but the penalty remains N5, 000 naira.

Another female student who called for anonymity questioned the rational for installing the penalty especially for the new students, who have paid through their nose since they wrote their jamb exam and the schools aptitude test plus other department fees.

Meanwhile, when campus gist called at the V.C’s office and that of the school PRO, both were not on sit and their office aids declined giving any comment on the issue.
